SarahC07 0 #26 September 20, 2006 While you might not be training for a marathon.... this book is still very helpful: "The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer" by: David Whitsett, Forrest A Dolgener, and Tanjala Mabon Kole I had the same problem with breathing. My recommendation (and what I personally did) is to start slow SLOW. Slow enough that it's almost completely painless and then set a plan to increase speed and follow it. The book helps a lot. Best of luck. :-)

I was a juggler for something like 10 years before I started running and beleive it or not... a three ball cascade fits very well into a running stride. Right before the previews started I got a text message from her that said "I'm sitting in a theatre about to see Reloaded." That is, without a doubt, the shittiest hijack attempt I have EVER witnessed. Go play in traffic. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. shropshire 0 #31 September 20, 2006 Dont know if anyone has already suggested this but.... look out for a local running (jogging - hate that term) club... They're bound to want to help a newbie and you'll meet like minded peeps who'll likely become training partners. Do lots of warm up/stretching, Start slowly, dont go too far and smile - if it's not fun, you proabably wont keep going. . . (.)Y(.) That would explain why I quit doing it the day I got pregnant and was henceforth never forced to do it again. Some people have children to increase the potential of their lives and expand their love...me, I got pregnant so the army couldn't tell me to run anymore. (That's a joke, all y'all...don't go gettin' all pissy about that comment. )~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. bloody_trauma 2 #33 September 21, 2006 a 5k? HA 3 miles is a fun run for me, usually do 5-10 milers at an airborne shuffle, once you getcyour body accustomed to running you should be able to regulate your breathing, just run whats comfortable for you, start out on a treadmill at the gym, that might helpFly it like you stole it
PLFXpert 0 #34 September 21, 2006 I'd say the best method is a personal trainer until you feel comfortable. There are so many techniques, books, magazines, etc. I like Runner's World magazine. It's only a mere 250 reward points for a year's subscription. But it ALWAYS does features on shoes, methods, and stays on top of the latest & greatest info.Of course, I haven't had much time to read mine the last few months.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. LisaM 0 #35 September 21, 2006 I started the Couch to 5K last night. 60 seconds jog 90 seconds walk for 20 minutes. I am in slightly (very slight) better running shape than this, so this was fairly easy. Or maybe that is how it is designed. I still don't know what kind of pace to do. I did more than usual but I am afraid to do that too much or my PF will act up. Did you start, Jaye? ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?

My neck and back totally wigged out again and I'm back on phys therapy 2x/wk. DAMMIT!!! They were just about to discharge me from the program, too. I am STILL going to run at a really REALLY easy pace -I'll do that 20 minute thing. Maybe it will help loosen up this muscle problem.~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.

PLFXpert 0 #40 September 21, 2006 QuoteI am starting on a treadmill for the plain and simple fact that I don't want people seeing me in work out clothes until I lose some weight Go at 5 a.m. then. I do! Not b/c I don't like myself in work out clothes but b/c I can't stand an audience when I'm running; like when we sometimes run on the beach at sunrise and there's other people out and we've been running for three or so miles already and my face is all flushed and people just stare. Plus in the morning it's a little cooler and you get to hear nature (rather than the business of everyone waking up) and smell the fresh air and all that other stuff you can't get from the treadmill. But having said that---I want a treadmill.--Only for those really, super-hot, sweat-like-a-piglet days when no matter what time you go it's unbearable.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. LisaM 0 #44 September 22, 2006 I want to run tonight.... and I don't. I started late in the week to pull off three times. Ever just get that knotty yucky feeling in your stomach.... like you aren't sure if you ate something that doesn't agree with you or if something is wrong. I want to curl up in bed. I must still run.... I will feel GOOD right. It's only 25 minutes. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
