ACMESkydiver 0 #1 September 20, 2006 I can't run. I haven't been able to run well EVER. Even in the army, I was always sucking wind so bad that I'd barely keep up with my station when we went out running. So now I really REALLY want to learn how to do it the right way. Running Chi. It looked good, so I have it reserved at the library. My problem is and always has been getting breathing down. I'm always gasping and getting side aches...it's just miserable. Yet I can do aerobic activity for hours, just NOT running. Help? ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
NWFlyer 2 #2 September 20, 2006 Take a look at www.coolrunning.com. Every so often I get the idea that I'm actually going to do the "Couch to 5K" program on there. I've started it a couple of times but external factors always seem to get in the way (besides the fact that I hate running)."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

simplyputsi 0 #11 September 20, 2006 http://www.posetech.com/ might have some helpful infor. The pose method is used by alot of people, I am planning on looking into it when I start training again. As far as your breathing goes, it's breathe in and then slow controlled out. Not the huff puff stuff. haha that sounds funny. I usually have a breathe in and then out out out slowly as I take each step. So I'm breathing in every 4th step when I'm at pace. by the way have you ever seen an An-2? I think they have one in China.Skymama's #2 stalker -
Icon134 0 #12 September 20, 2006 ok... I didn't start running until I was 25-26 years old (I openly hated it until then.) The thing I learned when I was doing it was to take it slow. I started out with probably a 1-2 mile loop and would run/jog for a bit then walk for a bit. I would do that until I could run continously for the entire loop. (maybe 3 days a week) Then I would gradually add mileage. One thing that I've learned is really important is not to skimp on shoes. They will wear out over time and do need to be replaced periodically. (I usually spend 70-90 dollars on a pair and depending on how much I'm running they'll last from 6 months to a year.) oh, I also would juggle when I ran, just to help pass the time... come to think of it now that Karma is getting better at heeling I might have to reincorporate that into my routine. Good luck. Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...

What I read: QuoteThat is the ultimate one-up. I blow the master. Now I have to try to explain to my manager why I thought that spreadsheet was so funny. So...who's your boss, and why do you refer to him as 'master'? Ok ok ok....BACK ON TOPIC!!! I need to learn how to run without: A.) Hyperventilating B.) Side Aches C.) Begging God for the second coming early to end my run D.) Cardiac Arrest. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
