Elite Status -What are we?

Recommended Posts

American - Executive Platinum
United - Gold? Whatever the first level is
Hilton - Whatever the first level is

Airline status is great fun...definitely has its perks.

I'm sure bigway is also a decent guy.

Bigway is a totally awesome guy. I do believe it's just him being "a foreigner" and not quite understanding what us American's mean sometimes on these forums. Since i've actually met him and know him i can honestly say he is a very nice, sweet, generous guy.

i don't recall the status for who I fly anymore, but for american it's exec plat since that's who i fly the most, and the rest, it's like first or second level, except on NWA b/c they suck ass and I won't fly them. I also don't fly on United, for no other reason than AA gets me there too and that's where my miles are. Hotels, same thing... hilton brands are where I stay since i can double dip and get hotel points and AA miles.

i used to get all jazzed about status and proudly display my status cards on my baggage and all that... now, it's just so shallow. don't get me wrong, i enjoy the perks, but big whoop for being platinum this and gold that... too many people where it like a freaking badge of honor, like they've been to battle or something.

some of you hit it on the head... i'd rather be home earning status w/ the wife and kids. thankfully, i don't travel nearly as much as i used to. it used to be 80-90% when i first started doing drug research. now it's more like 50%, which is far better for family life.

and the miles and upgrades and priority boarding ARE nice perks, I gotta say.

November of 03 my wife and our then 3 kids (4 now) flew to rome for a friends ordination, stayed for a week in a resort. flights and hotel all on points.

Sweet.

I have 168,000+ with Hilton. I REALLY need to do something with those. Do they expire? They keep sending me Diamond VIP cards although my stays have been RARE since Jan 05.

The older I get, the more I look at the platinum badges and think to myself : "LOSER"

Best story: Continental sent me a letter in 2004, congratulating me on being their X most frequent flier of the year. I showed it to the woman who I was dating at the time. She looked at it, read it, handed it back and said, "Peter, this says 'get a life.' "

She was right.

I don't know what you said, but I doubt you said it out of malice - that said, no apology needed - just forget about it.

And hey - if a free trip somewhere will help you get over your bad day, just PM me - I'm happy to give you the miles - wanna go someplace warm?

That's usually what I do with my miles - Last thing I wanna do is use them myself, so they're usually birthday/anniversary/wedding gifts.

You were one of those passengers that always said "Hello" to me when I was an Air Marshal weren't you? :D I never got on a first name basis or anything but there was certainly face recognition.:D

That was you?! :D:D

My favorite Air Marshal story was talking to someone sitting next to me (one of the reasons I came up with AirTroductions) and I asked what he did for a living, his response came too quick, "private security." At which point, he offered nothing more, and I questioned nothing more. I spent the rest of the flight reflecting on the fact that I was sitting next to a guy with a gun. Cool. :D

If you flew on Continental a lot from April 03 to Nov 04........yes it might have been. :D I was based out of Cleveland so I spent A LOT of time on Continental.

Amateur.........I had a much better story. I "borrowed" a story from a DZ.commer in Florida. He is a pilot for a fractional ownership airline. Constantly flying from Florida to wherever the plane was parked last to pick it up. Made the perfect cover story because I was only partially lying. I am a pilot......it just happens to NOT be what I do for a living. ;) It did bite me in the ass once. This guy started really drilling me with questions. I screwed up and told him I was an F.O. on some airplane that I really didn't know that much about. :D Another time I was cold busted was on a Southwest flight. Flying out to Seattle. The seats SUCK. No room. This was just a nice family guy with his kids flying to Seattle. Didn't really matter but somewhere along the way the guy leaned his elbow over and hit my gun. It was innocent enough........then he did it 2 more times just to see if that's really what he thought it was. :D It took a lot of self control not to laugh. He was cool though. He asked a lot of questions but it was in a non-chalant manner. I had told that guy I worked in Ops for Southwest. I have a million funny stories like that.

I was doing a cockpit enroute inspection not long ago. When I get down the jetway I find the crew talking with a couple of youngish civilain types. Turns out they're Air Marshalls. I'm guessing one was a trainee. So once in the cockpit the Capt informs me that he's legally armed. The jumpseat on a 737 is right in front of the cockpit door. So I'm thinking about the 2 guns behind me in first class, and the one gun in front of me. And me being right in the line of fire. About then the FO asked my name again..."Target" I replied.

No such thing really. They do a little bit of "orientation" when you first get to a new office. Like taking you around the airport to get your SIDA badge and showing you the differen't ways to get through security. Beyond that.....they hand you a flight schedule and expect you to show up. :D

No worries..........FAMs will NEVER shoot forward in the aircraft. Unless they have to. :D

I have a family friend that is a very nervous person. Very soon after the London bombings he was flying from NY to London. Was in the lounge for BA and started getting nervous about this guy. He was middle eastern and didnt look nice. The family friend is twitchy like i said so after getting more and more nervous he goes to the desk and says he wants to get on the next flight. The desk agent at the lounge says sure, but can I ask why. After some coaxing the guy says that he is nervous and knows he is irrational but does not like the "look" of the middle eastern guy in the lounge. The Desk agent smiles and says, that the scary middle easterner is a security consultant for BA and former Israeli special forces commando.

And in order to not Hijack the thread:

Yes, Peter has toys. So do I - although not to the extent that Peter does. There are some here that have more than he does too.

Dude you may not want to bring that out in a public forum. You and Peter can just keep your toys in the closet like everyone else, buddy! :|

Travel for fun? Yes, please.

Travel for work. No, thank you.

I'd rather make my zillions from home then pay for the upgrades. I'm certain my home life is worth the extra cost of travel to me.:)
Having said that...it's also nice to have family that pilots the aircraft.;)
Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
