I'm so naive... what does this mean?

I have this deaf friend I've been meeting with just to hang out, chill, and talk. He's helping me practice my ASL. Something that's always caught my eye, but I didn't know meant something, is his fingernails are all cut short except for the pinky, which is exceptionally long. I guess I have a hand fetish of sorts, because anything that isn't normal or pretty freaks me out. Regardless, he was doing me the favor by helping me.

Today I happened to mention how it creeps me out to a friend who told me that often times that people who do cocaine have their pinky nail longer then the rest for the purpose of opening whatever instead of using a razor, and just for the purpose of ease. I don't understand because I've never touched drugs in my life, but this is the info I got from her.

I'm talking to him online now and confronted him about it and so far his story sounds legit. Odd, but legit. So I'm wondering, have you guys ever heard of such a thing meaning something else, and what was it? Put my mind at ease please.

re the coke thing, he probally dosent have a key to use. That is why he'll stick his pinky nail in the bag.

a long nail is REALLY handy for those boogers that are up over your nose ridge. You know, the ones that are just positively ensconced up in there but you just HAVE to get out, even if it means going into your brain to find them?

When I was growing up in Brazil, a long pinky was a sign for some people that they didn't have a manual/menial labor job. It was really an indicator that the person's family and friends had done manual labor, and they weren't.

This was a long time ago; who knows if it's still true there even.

I know some dedicated anglers that keep it that way. They say it helps them handle bait without specific tools.

I've seen a few people keep one nail long like that for picking the seeds out of weed while rolling a joint. The whole coke nail thing is so 70's though, i can't believe it's for that.
