skysmurf2 0 #4 October 1, 2006 I'm missing something.... that guy didn't look like he meant to hit her. It looks like (to me) an accident. In which case the girl's boyfriend is a freak. That was a complete overreaction - he did not even give the guy a chance to apologise and then started hitting his mate for whatever reason. Admittedly CCTV or whatever camera showed the 2 to be behaving oddly beforehand, but if that guy was my boyfriend (not that I would ever date such a neurotic aggressor) he would be in serious serious trouble. Definitely not a hero (from my point of view) and his girlfriend appeared to be completely ineffectual. A man that quick to violence is not attractive. Michele 1 #7 October 2, 2006 You know, I don't think that was an accident. If you watch the video closely, you'll see the guy look quickly left over his shoulder, and then begin the backhand with his right fist. I think the only mistake was him hitting the woman; I think he was likely aiming for the guy, but mistimed the strike. No accident there at all... The guy doing the whuppin has some training, and did very well with two opponents. I would've been more inclined to use my feet as well, but that's my training. He's got some ring time, no doubt...watch for the jab combos, and also the backing down when both guys have landed on their asses. Good control, good use of force, and definitely excellent awareness. popsjumper 2 #10 October 2, 2006 I agree except for one thing...when you fight, you fight to win...you don't let the asshole up to have another go...you put 'em down until they STAY down and unable to get back up. That's the difference between "boxers" and streetfighters and I missed seeing the ring, the ref and the scorers in the video. My reality and yours are quite different. freeflir29 0 #11 October 2, 2006 QuoteYep, definitely some ring experience there... Seen that sort of thing before. In the parking lot of an NCO club in Alaska. This dumbass started talking shit to one of "My" airmen. I was doing the good NCO thing and dragging my airman away trying to keep him out of trouble. There were Air Force cops all over in the parking lot. This idiot follows us ALL THE WAY across the parking lot talking smack. On the THIRD time of me stopping to tell the guy if he didn't STFU I was going to let my airman go........I did. That fight lasted about 2-3 seconds. See............my airman was a relatively small guy. About 155-165 Lbs. Every bit of it muscle though and he had something like 20-30 golden gloves fights under his belt. He hit the idiot 5 times or more before the guy could fall all the way to the ground from the first punch. Of course.......then one of the other guys with us had to run over and do the obligatory "Daaamn.........you got knocked the FUCK OUT!" I gave my airman instructions to run like hell and hide in his billeting room until I told him he could come out. He did.........the cops casually strolled through billeting and then left. They had seen exactly what happened so they weren't looking too hard. Seeing stupid people get their ass kicked is hilarious!

That's the difference between "boxers" and streetfighters But the difference is there...and is in your statement. People with fight training (ring, martial arts) are taught to back off once the opponent(s) are down and no longer pose a threat...I was taught it's never a street fight, even if it happens on the street. In other words, I was taught to take it to the level that would allow me time to leave the environment, rather than stay and beat the hell out of someone. Because of that, my instinct now is to take it to that level, and then stop. He apparently has some of the same instructions...and some of the same training, as he walked away once both were down, stunned/confused, and he had time to get space and distance between he and his girlfriend and the bad guys. You may not have seen a ref, ring, or scorers in the video, but I did; watching someone who has been trained properly you can see them in the behavior of the fighter... udder 0 #13 October 2, 2006 haha..using your legs. great way to fight if you enjoy getting stomped. Except for a swift boot to the balls. I personally would have preferred the defender to use more knees, maybe the running boot to the head while the guys down. Perhaps a spot of eye gouging or a punch in the throat. Hands are fragile. Moisturise well. As for golden glove boxers, thats why I can run."In one way or the other, I'm a bad brother. Word to the motherf**ker." Eazy-E

udder 0 #19 October 2, 2006 There is a book by a stand-over man called Chopper who has a hilarious take on martial arts. I'll dig it up tomorrow. airtwardo 7 #20 October 2, 2006 That's the difference between "boxers" and streetfighters *** I would agree with you to a point. Yes, if that were me, (and there was a time when it very well could have been) I would have kept going until both guys were down for the count. There are no rules in a street fight, one of those assholes could have pulled a knife or a gun. If you have the advantage you HAVE to press it until the threat is completely eliminated. On the other hand it's obvious the guy has had training, he 'knew' how hard he'd tagged them bare fist-ed and perhaps figured he'd made his point and it was more prudent to get the girl away from there. As far as a boxer going up against almost any other 'style' of physical combat...be it Street Fighter, Karate, Judo, Kung Fu, Tie Kwon Do, or what ever... If the skill level and experience is similar between the fighters~ The boxer will most always win. I use to compete in full contact Tie Kwon Do tournaments at the Black Belt level when I was in the Mid-West. A lot of Golden Gloves guys would also compete in these types of events to keep sharp...kind of use it as 'training' tournaments. At every belt level and weight class, by the end of the day the 'primarily trained' Boxers were wearing all the Gold. Not only do they train different, have a whole different mentality for a fight...they have something over any other style... They are use to getting hit VERY HARD. They train for it, are use to it, know how to keep going when when the internal systems are trying to shut down for repair. Each and every time they train, they are trying to hit the opponent as fast, hard, and often as they possibly can. If you don't train that way, it's almost impossible to defend against it. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
Michele 1 #21 October 2, 2006 Quotehaha..using your legs. great way to fight if you enjoy getting stomped. Except for a swift boot to the balls. Well, see, I've had some brawls...and used my legs effectively. That's the way I was trained - use all your appendages because most often, the other side will only use two. And I've not yet met the guy whose arms are longer than my legs, either. Further, I've never been put on my ass without me intending that to be where it went (throws, absorption of energy), and the other guy always went down with me...and because I was in control of it, I was on my feet while they were still down there trying to figure out how to get up. No, this isn't a "my style is better than yours' discussion...rather, it's a clarification of my comment to Udder who seems to think that using your feet is not necessarily a wise idea. I think differently...and Cora's right, I'm not talking about arial kicking...rather, a swift kick to the opponent's midsection and/or knees will bring them down faster, allowing me to get time to get away. It's very dangerous to try to disable a guy's knees with one's hand...so I'll use my feet, thank you... 'Twardo, I was trained in both "streetfight" as well as stylistic. My tourney record is 21:20:1. In a total of 21 tourneys, I took second only once, and fought against men, women, big, small, and different styles (open tournies). We trained through pain, through discomfort, and through confusion...I never knew how much I hurt until well after the tourney...as it should be. Pain is, as they say, fleeting... And I always knew I would win when I could get the other guy to fight mad. Once the anger trigger went off, he was out of control...and was unable to perform to a level higher than me. Just happened that way. LOL... Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
airtwardo 7 #22 October 2, 2006 We trained through pain, through discomfort, and through confusion... *** As do we all... but again, the thing about a 'serious' boxer is that they train to fight hard, in non stop 3 minute bursts and probably get hit 'with' 50 or so power punches to the old melon EVERY session. You can be bigger, stronger, faster and better conditioned than a boxer opponent, but unless you specifically train to counter a 'ranked' fighters boxing onslaught...the odds are not in your favor. And to train enough to counter that one specific style to the extent that you need to, takes away from getting ready for the 'other' styles. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
BillyVance 35 #23 October 2, 2006 I've only been in one fight as an adult, when I was in college 18 years ago. Took a guy's knee out when I kicked it in the side. He couldn't stand up after that, much less chase me when I walked off. One of those stupid-ass bullies... I don't have any real formal martial arts training except for a couple of semesters worth of beginners judo, but I know when to go for the sensitive areas to incapacitate a foe with minimal effort, and I'm not even the confrontational sort.
