FlyinDawg 0 #1 October 7, 2006 My sister mention to me that her friend's boyfriend who have pilot license and my sister knew other a guy died, who own small single engine plane with fit for 4 people, which plane sat in small hangar in big farm plain field. We just though, smallest dropzone for myself... since he have pilot license and take me up with my own rig and drop me off in big farm field (empty) in far back of home. I probably do that one day whenever I get past 100 jumps. I'm sure it isn't illegal, well?Flyin' Dawg or SkyDog "To understand is to forgive, even oneself." BillyVance 35 #2 October 7, 2006 I don't know if it's illegal if nobody catches you doing it... you pretty much have to file a NOTAM with the FAA FSDO that serves your area so they know that parachute activity is going on there and can advise other air traffic. Not only that, but the aircraft will most likely need to have the door taken off to make exits easy, and to do that requires some kind of request to the FAA as well. I don't know the particulars. It's not just another jump at the DZ... so don't be trying it by yourself at 100 jumps."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

It would be mostly belly-flying. I like your enthusiasm, dude, and if I could find a farmer willing to fly me up in a crop duster so I could jump, I'd do it. However, the pilot you're referring to has probably never flown jumpers before, and his plane may not be set up for skydivers, and he may not want to take the door off before taking you up, depending on what kind of plane it is. Most doors open outward on private planes, not up like all DZ planes are configured for. So if you're going to jump mcfarmer's plane with the door still on, good luck getting it open, and not getting anything caught if you make it out. You should also make some jumps out of a C-182 at nearby DZ's (there are a few near you) so you get the feel of a small plane exit, first. That said, really, there's a lot more to deal with than just jumping out of some farmer's plane that hasn't been approved by the FAA, and if the FAA finds out you jumped without the NOTAM, they'll bust the pilot for it. I can imagine he'll be pissed about that if he didn't know that could happen. Just trying to help you understand what's involved. I am missing some things as well since I don't own a plane or have a pilots license. All I can say is, it can be a lot more trouble than its worth."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
