AggieDave 6 #1 October 9, 2006 QuoteSo, keep in mind people, that this is illegal to jump, and illegal to make ready to jump by a Certified rigger. this thread is for everyone who doesnt care much about what the man sais is legal WITHIN REASON. This is what is wrong. No regard for the future. If caught, the pilot would lose his/her's license, the rigger would lose his/her's ticket, as well as many other things. No regard for the future of the sport, just 3 years/400 jumps into the sport, if the profile is true, and not a care in the world for anyone else but this own jumper's agenda. Luckily the large majority of jumpers like this are simply tourists.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Lindercles 0 #3 October 9, 2006 What's especially unfortunate is that he's asking an interesting question, but in an inappropriate way. I'm curious to know why a Cypres expires after 12 years, too, but I'm not about to ask advice about how to do illegal things on the internet.
sundevil777 102 #4 October 9, 2006 QuoteI'm curious to know why a Cypres expires after 12 years, too, Airtek has made some official coments about how some electronic components will naturally and predictably degrade in performance and reliability over time. They say their testing at 4, 8, and at 12 years (returned units) confirms that their position is appropriate. This would probably be less important if you didn't care about the unit functioning correctly when exposed to environmental extremes (temp/vibration).People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
AggieDave 6 #5 October 9, 2006 It expires due to Airtec not being able to state that the electronic device will still function correctly after 12 years of hard use. Its a stop gap for them. I'm told that when the Cypres was first released it didn't have an expiration date. It was after further testing that the company decided to place a 12-year limit on the units. If it was for marketing or for actual safety, who knows; however, how many people have a TV, computer, stereo or anything else that works perfectly fine after 12+ years of hard use. Ok, maybe it'll make it 12, but how about 15? How about 16? 17? 18? When do you put the limit? 12 seems fine to me. I spent $1100 on my Cypres and in another 7 years I'll buy another one, probably for around $2000. Fine, worth the price and money well spent. If it was a problem, I'd take it out and not jump with one. Would I setup a situation in which a decent number of people could ruin their lively hood due to my selfishness? Nope.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Calvin19 0 #6 October 9, 2006 I am the tourist you are quoting homeslice, and i dont log my jumps, i stopped after about 250. so 400 is a good thought for 2 years after stopping log. man, pissing people off online is what i love doing while im recovering and cant walk, simply because it doesnt matter. so, if you had been paying attention to my profile, I AM a jump pilot, i DONT jump at Dropzones, we OWN our own aircraft, i VERY RARELY turn my cypress on if i am even useing a rig that can take one () so, why dont we all calm down around the bonfire, smoke away some weed, and feel better because it really doesnt matter. i wanted to know because the one i am USEING is 14 years old, we tested it with a old rig we just hucked out of my plane, (a rig with no one in it still descends to the LZ) and it still worked, had 6 years on the battery, and its in my mirage after a new duracell. looks brand new to me. but, maybe i wont turn it on after your message where someone ACTUALY ANSWERED MY QUESTION. Calvin19 0 #17 October 9, 2006 thanks. correct. rotor induced assemetrical collapse 15 seconds after launch, 2 destroyed legs, lots of metal, moderate brain injury. 3 months in hospital, 3 weeks ICU, 5 months wheelchair, blablabla... but, now base jumping and wingsuiting again. It's just that your original message seemed to be opening up a whole can of worms about the life of a Cypress and that it's illegal to jump one after 12 years. I'm guessing .. and it's just GUESSING .. that there's one in your neck of the woods that's older than that and you're questioning why they can't jump it. All I'm saying is if you have a problem with someone there, deal with it there. Don't bring it out here. And it's okay about the bro comment ... I shouldn't have replied about that to begin with.
