Groundrush99 0 #1 October 9, 2006 Enter these coordinates into Google earth & check out the Lancaster Bomber heading towards a airfield nearby. 52 20 10.87N 0 11 43.34W Not all that exciting but still interesting never the less. I know it's been mentioned before but I wonder if any free fallers have ever been captured on camera by satellites. It would be amazing to look at. I've tried a few drop zones but they must choose images on days when the place is is quiet.

That would certainly be the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Lanc (one of only two in the world still flying, although there is another that can do high speed taxi runs at the moment) and I will guess that it is returning from a display over London to its home at RAF Coningsby. As an Air Training Corps cadet on camp at Coningsby when I was ~14 we had a personal low level flyby from the Lanc for our passing out parade (that was also the week that their new Griffon engine Spitfire made its first post restoration flight)Do you want to have an ideagasm? Ian84 0 #4 October 9, 2006 I recently went on attachment to Waddington just up the road from Coningsby and got a personal tour of all the BBMF aircraft from a holding officer on the squadron. Trying to crawl around in that aircraft is pretty tricky!! I cant imagine doing it in combat!

Just imagine being a Tail End Charlie with the aircraft on fire and your parachute hanging from a hook at the other end of the frigging crawl space!! I have a lot of respect for the crews of Bomber command.Do you want to have an ideagasm?
DTOXX 0 #6 October 9, 2006 Check out that airport to the north of the plane. There was something happening that day for sure. ------- D.T. Holder SIMstudy
TheAnvil 0 #7 October 9, 2006 There's a famous Lancaster Bomber in Hollister, CA on occasion. I've even ridden in it once or twice. Damn thing tends to catch on fire, though. Nice Lanc shot.....how the hell did someone find that! 52°22'46.79"N 0°14'10.48"W looks like an airshow was going on. Maybe they knew to look for it. Maybe it was total coincidence. THe LB is supposedly flying at 60 ft AGL. I think that may be a bit inaccurate but the picture suggests something damn close to it.My photos My Videos
jdfreefly 1 #10 October 9, 2006 The google maps sattelite photo of crosskeys has jumpers walking in, and what looks like one canopy in the air, near the beer line. Methane Freefly - got stink?
davidlayne 5 #11 October 9, 2006 The airfield NNW of the Lancaster is R.A.F. Alconbury, the one ENE is R.A.F. Wyton.I don't care how many skydives you've got, until you stepped into complete darkness at 800' wearing 95 lbs of equipment and 42 lbs of parachute, son you are still a leg!
