AggieDave 6 #2 October 9, 2006 Google's business plan: Step 1: Take over everything internet Step 2: ???? Step 3: Profit So far its working very well for them. It'll be interesting to see what features or changes happen with the addition of YouTube to Google's very large holdings. Google had Google Video, well still has it, but it wasn't very popular since it was only a search engine and wasn't for posting.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." ematteo 0 #3 October 9, 2006 .. Step 2: sell ads .. Google's gross profit for 2005: $3.56 Billion This acquisition is like Cisco paying $7.4 Billion for *pre-revenue* Cerent a while back. Cisco used their channels to sell the product and got back the investment in a year.
shropshire 0 #4 October 9, 2006 It's what a lot of companies do.. buy small ones inorder to make more money (M$oft is a prime example). Google will expand it's advertising base, so long as it doesn't upset too many users and they leave to use other sites. . (.)Y(.) Oh trust me, I'm quite clear on what they're doing and the results. The 3 step thing is a joke, referencing South Park. You bring up a point, as Google continues to shape the internet, at what point does their influence change the internet. Just as MS has had a VERY heavy hand in the growth and shape of computers in the past 20 years. I will say this, the golden age of the Internet has since long past and the laid back community feel that the internet had in 1996 will never ever be found again.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." shropshire 0 #6 October 9, 2006 I missed the South Park reference (never really been a fan). Your point about the passing of the Golden Age of t'internet, may be correct but there is still plenty of scope for Mr Normal to make an individual impact (given the right imagination and determination). Bear in mind that YouTube has only been around for a very short period and already worth a fortune. . (.)Y(.) Agreed.. man you don't even have time time to make a cup of tea these days and the page has loaded before you've left the room. -- Hope you don't die. -- I'm fucking winning
AggieDave 6 #8 October 9, 2006 QuoteBear in mind that YouTube has only been around for a very short period and already worth a fortune. I agree with you there. And it still is possible to make a difference with a single site from a single person. Its just as common anymore. Thinking back to what the "hot sites" were back then, they were largely typically built buy someone for themselves or their small business. Oh well, it will be interesting to see what level of integration that electronics, the internet and our personal lives achieve in our life times.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
