Zeppo 0 #1 October 13, 2006 I just won a trip to Greece!!! I'm so excited that I needed to share. Unfortunately, it's the flight only...and I'm broke. I know skydivers are great people, does anyone here know a dropzone over there that could give me a place to sleep (and of course a place to jump Thanks everyone, you're always so helpful. What goes up, must come DOWN!!! unformed 0 #2 October 13, 2006 When are you going? If you're going in the summer, and you can make it out to Ios (one of the Cyclades), its one of the biggest party spots in Europe. (like Europe's version of Cancun), you can stay there pretty cheap too. This ad space for sale.
JAC 0 #3 October 13, 2006 Lucky!!! How'd you do that? I want to win too. Thinking about going there next summer.... but the tickets are outrageous!
Zeppo 0 #4 October 13, 2006 I actually have to travel before the end of the year, so i'm on a pretty tight timeline. I was thinking of going for the first week of december. What is the weather like over there, does it get very cold? What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
Zeppo 0 #5 October 13, 2006 they were given to my company, and we had a draw for the tickets...I was the lucky winner (of 12 people) But if I can't find a really cheap place to stay...then I can't afford to go What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
PLFXpert 0 #6 October 13, 2006 Bring a tent. Sleep on the beach. Wouldn't be my first choice, but I'd take it over not going at all.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
Zeppo 0 #7 October 13, 2006 That's BRILLIANT...I can't believe I didn't think of that. I'll definitely have to bring my tent (this is if I can't find anything else...here's hoping)What goes up, must come DOWN!!!

What is the weather like over there, does it get very cold? I'd check the weather.com. I'm sure they know better than I do. In the summer (I was there in August) it was absolutely beautiful, but now it's winter. It's meditaranean, so I would expect it to be like the Caribbean, really nice. but once again, weather.com should probably be able to tell you better. This ad space for sale. NWFlyer 2 #9 October 13, 2006 Googled "Greece on a budget" and found this: http://www.greecetravel.com/backpacking/ There's probably a "Let's Go" guidebook for Greece - maybe your local library has it."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
Lindercles 0 #10 October 13, 2006 Tent? Who needs a tent? I spent a bit of time in the Cyclades a while back, and on a small island called Anafi (just west of Santorini), I slept on the beach for a couple nights. Just dig a hole, build a fire, put rocks in the fire for a couple hours, then put the rocks in the hole and cover with sand. Bam, instant warm bed. BTW, to answer your question about weather, Greece gets pretty fucking cold in the winter.

My trip is to Athens, so prices in that area would be great. I'd like to spend as little as possible, while doing as much as possible. I suspect that will end up being ALOT of walking. Lindercles 0 #19 October 14, 2006 QuoteGood stuff, thats way better than me. Have you seen any other ancient stuff like the Oracle of Delphi? I have, and if you ever get a chance, do it. That is one of the most awesome places I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. But be careful of local bus drivers on mountain passes (no shit, there I was). Also, the locals are really nice and if you're not careful the local barmen will fill you full of raki and regale you with stories of the war.
