billvon 3,120 #1 October 11, 2006 Here's a picture of the latest bike I assembled. Components include: Crystalyte X-5304 hub motor (750 watt rated but I'm getting 1600 watts out of it) Wheel laced by EV Tech $200 Target mountain bike frame Currie controller Cruddy 48 volt lead acid battery (Hawker cells; high power but low energy) Right now I'm hitting 36mph, but I'm also seeing a 25% voltage loss in the battery, which is slowing me down. With a better battery I should be able to hit 40mph. Also attached is a picture of a lithium ion battery; should give me much more range (albeit at a slightly slower speed.) simplyputsi 0 #2 October 11, 2006 If you get a road bike, put a set of lighter wheels on it and then do all that I bet you could get 50 mph if you wanted. You'd be amazed at the power loss in a set of heavy wheels. That is awesome though, just awesome.Skymama's #2 stalker -
jraf 0 #3 October 11, 2006 If you put a lawn mower engine on it and use all the gas you have in the three red gas cans right in front of it you even might reach 75 mph. Or alternatively you can go to your friendly honda dealer and ask him to sell you a real motorbike. On other hand in your environmental capacity I hope your local power plant is wind/hydroelectric/nuclear cause otherwise you are creating more polution by charging the batteries than you would be riding a vespa mopedjraf Me Jungleman! jeiber 0 #7 October 11, 2006 Hmmm. I see a number of problems. 1) it needs a big spoiler on the back. Even if it isn't fast, putting the spoiler on there will make it look really cool. 2) hydraulics would really get the chicks 3) wire a neon light on the underside of the frame. Again, this'll really get the chicks! 4) mount up a side car, so you can go cruising for hotties!Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring! Problem solved: pt a "Type R" sticker on it, and WHAMMO! 4HP gained. And you're still a cheater Bill... Isnt work like 2 miles down the road? And that would be fun because . . . >I hope your local power plant is wind/hydroelectric/nuclear . . . . See attached for pictures of my local powerplant. >. . . more pollution by charging the batteries than you would be riding a vespa moped. Small IC engines (like Vespas use) are the most polluting engines out there (per horsepower.) A Vespa puts out more measurable pollution than a Honda Civic if both go the same distance. Clownburner 0 #16 October 11, 2006 QuoteI'm thinking that Jraf didn't read the last several hundred posts about what he invents to try to save energy and money. Sounds like it. One minor correction: I seriously doubt Bill saves any money by doing this stuff. The payback from solar alone is probably 10+ years. But it's certainly more environmentally friendly, so long as you don't have to throw that battery out. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth

It needs a new battery, better wiring, a decent charger, better front tire, better brake caliper, and a new bottom bracket. But for now it will do for testing. This little baby still has some of the "nubbies" on the tires! It hasn't been out on the road (except for a short jaunt half way down the block) in 34 years!!! My brother "hung it up" when he was 8 and said he wasn't riding it until the boys quit trying to beat him up for it! Guess he's still got that problem!
