Does Anyone Have These High Capacity Front-Load Washer/Dryers?

Recommended Posts

-Which ones, and how do you like them?

I'm sooo confused. :S Let's see..Whirlpool Duets, Kenmore HE4T, LG Extra-large capacity super washers, Maytag's brand...which one to get?

I have heard good things about the duets, and Kenmore is rated tops in Consumer Reports...anyone have any words on them?

We have HUGE laundry loads, and our laundry room is upstairs, so the dryer vent travels a LONG way to outside...someone said the Kenmore Oasis dryer is best for long vents? And with the twins' issues, we definitely need the 'high-temp' or sanitary wash cycles.

I dunno. :|

I bought LG machines last year and couldn't be happier. They are quiet, efficient (the washer uses about 9 gals. of water/load), and they do a great job on the laundry. One thing to consider: make sure the floor in your laundry room is solid. The front loaders spin fast, and will make your floor vibrate a bit. Nothing too alarming, but you'll know when the spin cycle is going. I redid the laundry room floor with half inch Hardi board and porcelin tiles, and can still feel it a little bit.

I went with the upper end Bosch models and am thoroughly pleased with them. I will say that the washer is more of a value than the dryer. The washer is where most of the energy savings come from. It's the fact that the clothes are spun so fast that there just damp when they go into the dryer.

The Kenmore HE4T is phenomenal. I did a lot of research a year ago when I bought both the washer and drier and many sources, including consumer reports as you mentioned, rated it as the best. I have had other high end machines in the past but this particular model is really the best. Everyone I know that bought a Neptune has had issues with it although I hear the quality control problems have recently been corrected....if you want to buy a Neptune make sure it is an altimiter! ;)

I saw "High Capacity" and "front-LOAD" and immediately thought "oh, we're talking about pre-ban stuff" and then I think to myself, "wait a minute, this isn't SC!"

As far as washing machines go... I know the one metal box makes the clothes wet, then there's this other metal box that makes the clothes dry. Other than that, I'm not much help, sorry...:P

the maytag neptune are top. Bought my parents a pair and hadmy own washer inMN but sold before moving back to WA. When you first wash clothes n them you will have so much soap come out becuase of al the soap that is left in you clothes from conventional. It saved me the laundrymat as a pipe insulator because the triple rinse gets all the glass out. Sure miss that washer, and the saved electricity. going to wait to see if house in OR im moving to will have gas or elec first, buy set.

Parents set no problems 6 yrs...i tihnk moving them is where the problems happen

I bought the Kenmore HE3 about 2 yrs ago ( before the HE4 were avaialable)...

They work as advertised and are worth every penny.

The major complaint is the build-up of moisture in the washerl resulting in a fowl-smelling mildew... So when they are not in use, it's best to keep the doors open.

Jaye, the length of the exhaust is limited by code to 14', which can include two 90 degree turns. If you have more than 2, subtract 2' for every 90 degrees there after. If the duct exceeds this, lint can build up quickly. You might need to install a booster fan.

Kenmore HE4T. Super quiet, use little water. Even whites come out shiny from cold cycle. Dry a full load (including jeans) in less than 30 mins on medium heat.

Don't forget to buy High Efficiency detergent or you'll have suds everywhere!

I bought the GE front loader. This thing does about 2 to 2 1/2 times what my old washer could do in 1 load. It has so many different types of wash cycles which I use all the time and they are easy to understand and change with the turn of a knob. Quiet! You almost cannot even hear the spin cycle. Hardly uses any water and you use about only 1/3 the amount of soap. I highly recommend the GE.

Thanks for the tip...I will definitely do that. -'code'? We don't need no steenking code!! Well, at least the 'brilliant' people that owned this house before us didn't when they went about installing all kinds of funky shit...:S They cut out holes for light switches and sockets too big, so there's gaps of open drywall here in there.

This is also a couple that cut a hole in the downstairs ceiling because the upstairs master bath was leaking and they couldn't figure out why. They cut a hole and did a shoddy job of installing a POS grill to make it look like it's an air duct opening instead of a drain for the f'd up master bath. >:(

Funny how they didn't mention when we were buying the house...:S>:(:|

Anyhoo, we DID buy the Siemen's front load pair. I am so excited to get it! We'll take delivery from North Carolina in about 2-3 weeks (the sooner the better! :S).

I am soooo happy!!! B|B|B| (I told Joe that I am finally a 'domestic'. I'm turned on about a stainless steel drum front-load high-capacity washer and dryer set. :D:D)
