lawrocket 3 #2 October 16, 2006 I saw video. 31 players have been suspended (13 from Miami and 18 from FIU). It goes beyond a mere scuffle when players are swinging helmets and crutches as weapons. I saw one player stomping his cleats into another player. I always believed (and still do believe) that attendance is mandatory in a brawl. Even in high school, I reprimanded the one teammate who stayed on the bench during a full scale brawl at a soccer game. I also believe there are rules abotu brawling. Like in baseball, there is nothing in the rulebook about when to bean a batter, but there are definite rules about when to bean a batter. There are rules in hockey against fighting, but there are unwritten rules about when it is required to drop the gloves. The scrap started in the trench during the snap - in a couple of separate places. It then moved to the backfield and really took off when a player went after the holder. WTF? You go after the HOLDER? The HOLDER? One guy who is generally even wimpier than the kicker. What, was the kicker too tough? So, yeah, some retaliation was necessary. For example, I applauded ex-Saints Offensive Lineman Kyle Turley for retaliating against a vicious facemask on his quarterback by grabbing the Jet player's facemask and twisting the helmet off of his head. The punishment fit the crime, and Turley wore it. He protected his quarterback and put his ass on the line to show it. This group thuggery is a different thing altogether. Stomping, swinging helmets and other things like that are ridiculous. If a couple of teams wanna scrap, then do so without weapons. My wife is hotter than your wife.
