Scoop 0 #1 October 17, 2006 Don't you hate it when people come out with the phrase "I just don't have the time". It annoys the hell out of me. We live in an age where we have more gadgets than ever to make our life easier and less hard work.... (off the top of my head) Fan assisted ovens, washing machines, hoovers, tumble dryers, dish washer, remote controls, automatic gates (if your posh enough), showers, central heating, lawnmowers, mobile phones, computers and therefore internet, digital cameras (dont even need to develop photos anymore), cars, motorcycles, trains, aircraft, automatic bite indicators for fishing (now that is lazy), ice making machines. These are things that if you go back a couple of generations or more our family wouldnt have had or at least not with the same efficiency. So how is it that we have less time than ever. People dont even work longer hours, thats bullshit. There isnt more demand from work so dont try that ol' chestnut. We just like to believe we work harder than anyone else. *sigh* - Just venting I guess for no paticular reason
unformed 0 #2 October 17, 2006 Um. It's because we don't have the time. We have to know who's going to win American Idol and which Desperate Housewife is going to bone who and all this other crap. Even with TiVo, there's about 20 hours of programming a day we can't miss or the world is going to end. This ad space for sale.
Scoop 0 #3 October 17, 2006 Exactly, I bet if you disected peoples daily routine and what they constitute so important in their timetable that it leaves 'no time' for other things, we'd be pretty amused/scared Like a good postwhoring session on DZ.com for example

wmw999 2,583 #5 October 17, 2006 We spend a lot of time managing all that stuff, and making choices, and managing the choices. So then we take some "me" time, and make sure our personal space is well-protected. While we're physically more comfortable, I have a feeling that we're not more connected to our surroundings and our communities. We feel as though we can (and should) choose our communities too. But sometimes you should bloom where you're planted. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

kbordson 8 #8 October 17, 2006 I like to think it's more "distracted" than "lazy." With all these conviences, life seems more complicated. It's easy to get bogged down with details and when you feel bogged down, you seem to accomplish less. But when you can cut out the TV, the surrounding noise and foucs, then things get done. (or maybe we're just getting lazier)
