moodyskydiver 0 #33 October 15, 2006 Quotehence the name?! Exactly! Dont even try to get good TexMex or Mexican food up north. My friends took me to a "TexMex"restaurant in NY and it was all I could do to choke it down out of politeness. Not fit to eat at all.But if you've never had the real thing I guess you dont know any better and would think its good. The same thing happened to my husband while visiting friends in Michigan. They took him to a "real authentic" Texas steak house. What a laugh. All the waiters were dressed in these ugly fake cowboy hats and bolo string ties with red plaid (tablecloth looking) shirts. While all the waitresses had on 'daisy duke' cutoff bluejeans shorts and the same ugly shirts, wearing their hair in pigtails. The whole staff had to fake this reall BAD southern accent thats nothing close to a TX accent. He said it sounded like a "who shot JR" moment. He was just waiting to find someone with a cadillac with longhorns on the grill out front.Ofcourse the worst of it was that they couldnt even cook a proper steak. He sent his back twice and the cook got pissed and came out to talk to him b/c "they were running an authentic TX steakhouse" and my hubby finally told him they were all full of shit b/c he was a native Texan and none of this was 'authentic' including their bad bootleather that they called a steak and that,as a Texan, he was offended by the whole thing b/c people were coming in here and getting a complete lie about what 'authentic' Texas was like.Anyway, his whole party's meal was comp'ed and they left. My opinion..I dont even try to get a good steak or good Mex. or TexMex outside of Texas, period. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."

k_marr08 0 #37 October 20, 2006 how about "new york" pizza outside of brooklyn, the bronx, manhatten, queens, or long island (and I guess staten island, though I've never tried the pizza there..) pizza is horrible unless you get it in ny. and it can't be upstate new york, which might as well be a different state altogether. :D"I believe the risks I take are justified by the sheer love of the life I lead" - Charles Lindbergh

I've had steak in many countries including yours an I'd have to give the prize to Argentina and Scotland.
