PhreeZone 20 #7 October 22, 2006 Watch it, IE 7 already has a vurnerability tagged to it if Outlook Express is installed also. The whole "Security" that IE 7 is to bring around isn't overall that impressive. Also in the enterprise world its breaking apps left and right. Personally we are not even adding support for it until Feburary since thats how much recoding is going to need to be done. If you use dedicated web apps for stuff its rolling the dice so far as to if they work correctly or not.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Slappie 9 #9 October 22, 2006 QuoteCool, thanks. I have been using the final release for about three days. I have had no major issues. I've upgraded 3 of my 5 machines with it. No problems really except getting used to the UI. Then it's pretty intuitive. Only reason I've not done the other 2 is one is a P3 box just for BiTorrents and IRC chat. The 5th box is a linux file server. "Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them." pug 0 #10 October 22, 2006 One machine with Firefox, another with IE7, and I have to admit that I'm sorely tempted to move to IE7 completely. Typically it's small fry stuff that tends to influence my decisions in these matters, and I really appreciate things like the close button on each tab and the url indicator for pop-ups – YMMV, of course. As for compatibility – no issues to date, not even in the corporate environment, although I'm not so naïve as to delude myself that this will always be the case. Just my two cents. pug 0 #11 October 22, 2006 There have been various instances in the past where vulnerabilities in other applications have impacted the browser (irrespective of whether it was IE, Firefox, or Opera). A prime example would be the WMF issue that arose toward the end of last year. Although it was originally cited as an IE bug, it turned out to affected all browsers, as it associated with a completely different component. The current issue seems to be associated with Oulook Express, and not IE7. Basically, the browser is passing a request over to OE, so far so good, but then OE seems to mess things up. Truth be told, I don't really see IE7 at fault here, as I don't its security model to take care of things that happen after it has correctly passed something along. [lecture mode] Nowadays, security in PCs cannot be lain down at the feet of a browser anyway, or an operating system for that matter. It requires the system to be updated regularly, the use of some sort of firewall, and anti-virus software. I ended up getting rid of it because my version of McAfee antivirus didn't like it. It wouldn't show the correct windows, or buttons, etc............. I may update and try it again, but for now, i'm on Firefox 2.0 for nearly everything....Goggles and Teeth "You fall like a greased safe!!!" I did have some compatability issues with Adobe Acrobat with saving PDF files and a few issues with some graphics software and Quicken 2006. These were all in the Beta version. I upgraded to the full release a couple of days ago and haven't had any issues yet.
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
