jasonRose 0 #1 October 29, 2006 Hmmmm. Of course no one has ever jumped through a cloud, that would be against the law. Although those white puffy things look sooooo soft. Some day I will have the best staff in the world!!!
kenneth21441 0 #2 October 29, 2006 What scares the Sh** out of me is if the cloud breaks at pull altitude and there is other jumps coming down with me. What could happen.. Seen it and its not a pretty sight. So with that I do not even attempt it unless I was alone in the sky and that is a BIG Alone.Kenneth Potter FAA Senior Parachute Rigger Tactical Delivery Instructor (Jeddah, KSA) FFL Gunsmith

Froggy 0 #4 October 29, 2006 QuoteOf course no one has ever jumped through a cloud, that would be against the law. Well... It all depends where you have a chance to jump -- the world is larger than North America with it's regulations... Oh, did anyone go through the hail cloud without a full-face on? OUCH! -------------- We were not born to fly. And all we can do is to try not to fall...

bigway 4 #6 October 29, 2006 Illegal?? Are you kidding me? Dude, it may be illegal in some places but there are many dropzones where you can. Most dropzones i have been to that do not have controlled airspace will jump through clouds. I just dont like clouds full of ice or at break off time. I love openning on top of clouds and swooping the clouds. I hate opening in clouds, that can be a bit scary. .Karnage Krew Gear Store .

REaaly fun trying to time your pull to where you fully open right above without a splat worry. or carving the cloud or going through, the smell and mist..shit now im bummin FYI, I have a friend that jumped in Aussieland and they jump through solid "we got GPS mate". Zep 0 #10 October 29, 2006 Quotethey aint soft theyre wet.. yeah i would jump both fog and clouds, its the same anyway Wait till you do a jump an sea fog rolls in AFTER you've exited, You have no idea where you are, Tall buildings one end of the DZ, 66000volt lines the other end, an at 100ft you still can't see the ground. Your asshole would be puckering like mine was. Fog aint nice No DZ would purposely let you open in clouds Gone fishing
Faber 0 #11 October 29, 2006 QuoteWait till you do a jump an sea fog rolls in AFTER you've exited how high were the jump, did you fly WS? how high did you pull your canopy?did you fly a students canopy? I cant belive that the area as been totaly fogged AFTER exit, you must had some clue that the weather were about to change... so why did you leave the plane in the first place? Note: most of my fog jumps has been at BASE off an 3guy wire A,whith less than 100ft sight, trees, bushes wires, transformators ete etc. i would do it again. QuoteNo DZ would purposely let you open in clouds a good rule is to notice at which level clouds apper in,both above and below.desiding whether to pull inside the cloud or just below it. and make it clear to others what you intend Also have aa agreement on what to do if you find yourself under canopy inside a cloud,to minimice the chance of flying into others. Royd 0 #12 October 29, 2006 A few weeks ago, I was in a five way. We came apart, and the others disappeared thirty feet from me. I just fell straight down for at least 7,000'. As I came out at 4,000' I saw them tracking away from each other 50 yd. to my right.

Spring 1990 (checked log book) Jumping next to the coast northern Spain, Exit alt 13000, nearly total cloud cover at 3000ft A very short spot(at that point in time the pilot would often give the call using instrument readings) an a sea fog that rolled in very quickly. I know you have jumped at that DZ an you know at certain times of the year the weather can change in minutes I always notice cloud base on the ride up an if it is lower than break off hight we'll break off a bit higher, If I open in cloud for whatever reason I'll shout or sing loudly till I'm out of the cloud. Skyrad 0 #14 October 29, 2006 Came through the base of a cloud once to find myself on a collision coursse with a light aircraft. Dumped and all was well but, I was a little suprised to see it. Told a mate who told me how much he loves chasing them Wish I'd thought of it at the timeWhen an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Faber 0 #15 October 29, 2006 i only skydived in Denmark and UK so no i didnt jump at that spot but i do belive i know were it is.. however as the clouds were total in 3000ft and people knows the conditions in the area why wasnt there contact whith the pilot from the ground? anyway if its the place i think off i also wouldnt be happy under a canopy in thouse conditions there... its the city whith a BASEfreindly hotel right? matt1215 0 #16 October 29, 2006 I've dumped right above the cloud, seen my shadow in its spectrum . Last week, I tried the same but timed the pull a little late. Sniveling thru a cloud is scary, esp when you come out the bottom with nasty line-twists . The scary part is feeling something's not quite right and not being able to see what's above you. happythoughts 0 #19 October 29, 2006 QuoteSo with that I do not even attempt it unless I was alone in the sky and that is a BIG Alone. Just because you didn't exit it with anyone, it doesn't mean you are alone. Jumpers following you may move along line of flight. Unseen other aircraft. Even on a clear day, most people look out the exit door for aircraft traffic. However, on a clear day, you may see them eventually.
rapter 0 #20 October 29, 2006 We once did a demo over military air space at an air show, and was wrote up by the FAA for a violation of the FAR's not maintaining proper clearance from clouds. It said we should not do it again for two years or "actions" will be taken, what kind I have no idea. The FAA Official, Mike Day, was kinda a jerk over it, said he had pictures, I said I wanted to see them, He said no, I could at the "hearing", I was all for it, but never got a reply, and nothing was ever said again. I will never jump through a cloud since it would put other people in danger and at risk. Those sneaky moving clouds that seem to fly right under me after I have exited the aircraft that had clear air space moments before, well. Those sneaky clouds are really just trying to enjoy the day with me and always try to maintane proper distance to keep everything legal. Some day I will have the best staff in the world!!!
