JohnRich 4 #26 November 1, 2006 This was a very cool moment. We spied a doe with two fawns, the fawns with just traces of their spots remaining, so they're about six months old. They saw us and disappeared behind a hill, so I belly-crawled up the hill, peeked over the edge, and caught these terrific photos without the deer knowing I was watching. 1) Mom and fawns. 2) The cool one: both fawns suckling on Mom! Wow! One fawn is behind the other, and you can only tell that there are two of them from the number of legs you can see. What an incredible nature moment. I was very excited getting to witness this. Mom put up with that for about 15 seconds, then lifted her leg up over the babies and bounded away. These are mule deer, so they run by bouncing on all four legs, hopping like a giant rabbit. It's very odd to see, but they do it quite gracefully. That's it for my Mt. Rainier photos. I hope you enjoyed them.
