chigbee 0 #1 November 4, 2006 During the Denver Indianapolis game, while showing Adam Vinatieri and Peyton Manning, Phil Simms says, "now htere are two of the clutchest players ever". What!? Are you kidding me!? Peyton Manning clutch!? He's about as clutch as A-Rod and Karl Malone. Peyton is the anti-clutch. In high school he started for 3 years and only lost 5 games - no state championships. He was one of the most prolific college quarterbacks ever - no national championships, no wins against rival U of F. And we all know how many times he's crapped his pants in big games in the NFL. So if by clutch Phil meant throwing three 4th quarter touchdowns when already ahead by 24 in week 7. Then yes he is one of the clutchest ever.
JohnMitchell 16 #2 November 4, 2006 He performs in a clutch, or tight, situation. It is a compliment. You're confusing it with "chokes", as in "He chokes when the pressure is on." Does anyone know how "clutch" became the adjective to describe an individual who performs when the heat is on.

CanuckInUSA 0 #4 November 4, 2006 I'm not a fan of Peyton nor do I care about or follow the Colts. But I think we should bookmark this thread and revisit it at the end of the season since the Colts and Manning are looking very good as a serious Super Bowl threat. Denver (which happens to be my NFL team) has a very good defense and the Colts were able to move the ball at will in the 2nd half of that game. I would like to see the 1972 Miami Dolphins unbeaten 14-0 + playoffs record remain intact. But until the Colts lose this season, that record is in jeopardy ... again. chigbee 0 #5 November 4, 2006 He performs in a clutch, or tight, situation. It is a compliment. You're confusing it with "chokes", as in "He chokes when the pressure is on." I don't know what Webster's says as the defintion, but now it means someone who can perform when it matters. For example, Phil Mickelson is one of the best golfers in the world, but he is not clutch. (especially before he picked up a few majors). Tiger Woods on the other hand - Clutch. Peyton Manning is an excellent quarterback but he is most assuredly not clutch. chigbee 0 #6 November 4, 2006 You're right, the Colts are looking very good this year much like the last 3 years. I don't think they can win in the playoffs, becasue they can't stop the run. It will take a huge performance by Manning for them to win it, and so far he has shown that he is not up to it. Of course he still has a lot of years left and can shed his his choke artist reputation.

lawrocket 3 #8 November 4, 2006 Calling Peyton Manning "clutchest" is like calling Dan Fouts "clutchest" or Marino "clutchest." It was like Manning and Reggie Wayne were just playing with Denver's defense. Which is the point: Marvin Harrison, his number 1 receiver, was shut down (only 5 catches - yes, that's a shut down for him). So he connects repeatedly with his No. 2, Reggie Wayne (who'd be No. 1 receiver on 2/3 of the teams out there). Wayne not open? Connect with Dallas Clark, who is only 6'4" and 250. Or swing to the running back. Manning has weapons. His brilliance is knowing exactly how to exploit them. Is he clutch? Well, he has led some comebacks. Tampa Bay would say he is (what, 3 TD's in 2 minutes or something?) But he hasn't won the big one. Sometimes not his fault. He did a Tom Brady last year against Pittsburgh - the only difference is that Vinatieri made the last second field goal, while Vanderjagt missed. Indy out of the playoffs, Pittsvburgh goes on to win. Manning is responsible for some of the failures to win. But it also ain't his fault all the time, either. My wife is hotter than your wife.
GQ_jumper 4 #9 November 4, 2006 It looks like Denver and Ind. are going to meet again in the post season, last sunday was Denver's best game so far this season, Plummer finally pulled his head out of his ass and played like he meant it and the team finally realized the full potential of Mike Bell, it almost reminded me of Terrell Davis a few years back. I think their next matchup is going to be even better than this one was. Overall i think both teams were perfectly evenly matched, either team could've taken it, Ind. just happened to have the ball at the right time to take the field goal without giving Denver enough time to answer, had denver had the ball for the last drive of the 4th quarter they probably would've taken it. As for their next matchup, well Denver's defensive line only keeps getting quicker against the running game and Champ Bailey is the ultimate weapon against a passing offense. I think it's going to once again hinge on Jake the snake, when he wants to be he's as much of a clutch player as they come, but when he's off, well you've all seen it. If he doesn't keep his performance up throughout the season though Cutler is next up and a few commentators have already named him the next John Elway, we'll see.History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. chigbee 0 #11 November 6, 2006 QuoteManning 27 Brady 20 I know, I know. I am eating my words today. Peyton played excellent last night, and Brady had four picks. Oh well probably won't be the last time. He will probably go 16-0 and be Super Bowl MVP. Then I really will look silly.
ACMESkydiver 0 #12 November 6, 2006 I guess I read your thread title as 'Peyton Manning one of the Cutest Ever' I think he's a cutie-patootie. CanuckInUSA 0 #13 November 6, 2006 I hope I am wrong, but it appears that the Miami Dolphins will be tasked on Dec 31st with trying to prevent the Colts from logging an undefeated regular season (they beat the Bears yesterday, but can they beat the Colts). I doubt none of the other teams which play the Colts between now and then will have any sort of success when it comes to beating Indy. Then who knows what will happen come playoff time. Here's hoping that the Broncos can do away with the Colts (should they meet in the playoffs), but Denver doesn't exactly have a good record with going into Indy during the playoffs and coming away victorious. In fact the Broncos seem to get absolutely pummelled whenever they play Indy in a playoff game. So when all is said and done. The jury is still out as to whether or not Manning is the "clutchest" QB around. But at the moment, he sure is playing well ... and that frustrates me since I don't really like the guy. But what can you do? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
