I think the artists (and i use that term lightly) know who the so called winner is before the show starts.
Who nominates these people? who votes? Who cares?

Here's a good country joke: My parents had a place next door to Alan Jackson in Florida in a culdesac/dead end street. The tourist traffic was funny so my dad put "G. Brooks" on his own mail box. Even Alan thought it was hillarious. Everybody is a comedian.

I say its a joke. I've seen years of award shows and Faith has never behaved like that. She wasnt "moving her stuff". She had just performed and was back stage. I think she was just having fun. Plus she got some publicity and even bad publicity is good publicity.
