Conundrum

Please welcome Aiden Spencer!!

At 33 weeks and 3 days pregnant I was swelling up tremendously, and it was never going down or getting better. I thought it was just the swelling you get when you're pregnant and didn't think anything of it except that it sucked. I gained 13 pounds in one week. :S Anyway, I had a checkup appointment with my OB last Thursday, and pretty much as soon as he saw me he knew something was wrong.

I developed a severe case of preeclampsia and he sent me over to the hospital for blood work and told me that I'd probably need to deliver very soon, within the day or week. Quite a shocker, my due date wasn't until December 20th. :o

So I went to the hospital, admitted myself and got a room. Blood tests were done and I was pretty much stuck there. Overnight my condition got worse, so to prevent me from crashing (because my body was quickly deteriorating) and causing problems for the baby, my Dr. decided to have a semi-emergency c-section on Friday, November 3rd.

So the rest is history, I had a c-section and Aiden was born on Nov. 3rd at 3:45pm. He weighed 4lbs. 5oz. and will be in the NICU for the next several weeks. He's doing awesome so far, breathing on his own, starting to put on weight, starting to eat from a bottle and no longer has to be under the phototherapy light for jaundice. The nurses love him there. He's a little love bug.

So, I just wanted to share the good news, we're parents now to a little baby boy. B|

CONGRATULTIONS!!!

I hope you are doing ok. Sounds like you probably developed HELLP and that is a big toll on mom's body - I hope you are getting the rest you need!

Boy o Boy I've been in your shoes. The NICU is two steps forward, one step back - don't let it scare you.

I'm in the process of writing a book on the NICU experience and can offer lots of insight from myself and what I've learned from others, if you are interested.

33 weeks is a good gestation - you won't have to deal about IVH (brain bleed) like we did and he'll probably leave about 35 - 36 weeks gestation.

Again, congrats and if you'd like a shoulder to lean on or a empathetic ear... I'm here :)

That is such awesome news!! CONGRATULTIONS! B| Beautiful child, mother and handsome dad :)
Now if only I could get rid of these thoughts of getting married and having kids. MY GOD I'm almost 40 with no children and no ex wives, is there something wrong with me?
