james309 0 #1 March 2, 2007 I just got my A license, and I am trying to find a container that would work for me. I am having a tough time because I am 6'1" and 205 pounds. I have been searching the classifieds for almost a month, and I am running out of ideas. Some people recommended buying a new container and reserve, but I have been downsizing pretty quickly (280, 260, 240 in 29 jumps). I can afford a new container, but it doesn't seem practical, so I would appreciate any advice I can get.You only live once, but If you live like I did once is enough. If you are flying the 240 well, I would get a used container/reserve sized for a 220 main. That way it will take the 240 you are jumping now, and you'll be able to go as small as about 190 in the same container. I would recommend a PD218R or similar reserve if you plan to buy soon. GravityGirl 0 #3 March 3, 2007 What is your body weight? How have your landings been? What elevation do you jump at? Everyone downsized quickly from student gear until they meet or just exceed that 1:1 wings loading. Then there is a whole new bucket of things to learn. Flying your openings, predicting the traffic, planning your pattern and alternates in relation to your descent rate and that of the canopies around you, landing in conditions you may not have jumped in before, etc. In short. Once you get to a certain point (you may be there now), you'll have a good amount of jumps on a specific size before you get bored..... if you get bored. Everyone assumes the forever downsizing these days, yet the reality is, that not everyone downsizes at the same pace or as far. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! sundevil777 102 #4 March 3, 2007 Did you get the Personal Message I sent you?People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
james309 0 #5 March 3, 2007 Thanks for the help guys. I am 205 pounds without gear so around 230 or 235 pound exit weight. My landings have been great, and I'm landing at around 1250' MSL. I appreciate the help, and I was wondering how hard it is to close a container with a chute that is one size larger than what it is designed for?You only live once, but If you live like I did once is enough. darkwing 5 #6 March 3, 2007 It depends. ... that's about all anyone can say for sure. Sometimes nearly impossible, sometimes not hard at all. You can speculate all you want, but the only reliable test is to try it. There is too much variation in canopy and container volume, due to too many variables. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
