mamajumps 0 #1 February 25, 2007 I just purchased an older vector II rig with a raider 175 main. I don't know anything about this canopy other than that it is a 9 cell f-111 canopy. Would those of you who have expierence with this canopy. please post your expierences. I've been skydiving since 2003 but have low jump numbers due to kids and family etc... I am approx 155 out the door... if I did my math right, it would be a .88 wing loading... thanks for any advice!
 MrBrant 0 #2 February 25, 2007 um, wasn't the Raider only a 220 sq. ft? I know Glide Path (Flight Concepts?) used to call the same canopy different names depending on its size (Raider, Clipper, Manta, wildfire?, etc.) - i thought the Raider was the 220 version of thier 9-cell F-111 line. Hopefully somebody can confirm, or correct me if I'm wrong. Im really not sure what I am getting, but for what I paid it is a killer deal.... None of what you were told makes sense. A Raider is 220, nothing is 175. Pull it out and look on the label. It may be on the tail or by the pilot chute attachment. If it's something like 175, it may be pretty small for you. Especially if it's got more than a couple of hundred jumps. If it truely is 220, then it will be a little big for you unless it's wore out. No matter what a future transition to a zp canopy will entail re-learning some piloting skills.I'm old for my age. They performed just like you would expect a student canopy to perform.
 flydude 0 #8 February 26, 2007 I too have a number of jumps on Raider 220. Almost half of my jump#, Id guess.. The Raider perform somewhat as a student canopy, but may not be as forgiving for some maneuvers, as some of the newer student canopies. The one I jump (my dads) is no fan of quick moves, both on toggles and risers. Ive tried and it does some rather strange things. It shakes you all about, till you let go and it will fly perfect again. But when handling it nice and calm, it will react nice and calm, maybe somewhat late at times, but thats what large canopies does... Its no bad canopy for a person with not too many jumps. Ive jumped Sabre2 170 and 190s too (and thats what Im getting within the next month ) , so I do have something to compare with, if someone thought different. About 15-20...A skydiver's famous last words: - Hey! Hold my beer, and watch this...! - If that guy can do it, so can I...! - In 9 out of 10 this will work out just fine. Don't worry about it...! For my experience (at the time) it was a nice canopy i though. To the OP: I found them all to be good for new jumpers still gaining knowledge of parachute handling and forgiving when a mistake was made. I think you could do no wrong with the Raider or the Wildfire, it will just depend on your attention to detail when flying your canopy. MattAn Instructors first concern is student safety.
