windcatcher 0 #1 November 24, 2006 Okay, so I was filling my gas tank all the way ( which I never do) and was watching the gas start to slighty leak out since I coudn't put anymore in. I replaced the gas pump, paid for my gas...and forgot to replace the cap on the tank! Anyone know what I can do? Boy do I feel stupid...but I'm gonna go ahead and blame it on "pregnancy brain." kelel01 1 #5 November 24, 2006 From what I understand, you don't even really need one. But I'm sure you can get a replacement from a dealership.
normiss 901 #6 November 24, 2006 auto parts stores have replacement ones for just such an occasion! and it's pretty important to have one on fuel injected models! also why newer cars have them attached!

PhreeZone 20 #11 November 24, 2006 Maybe no harm to your car. The parts on a pump are expensive and at least the few times some one has damaged a pump at the gas station my family owns the pump had to be completely reinspected and certified by the auditor to insure that it ws dispensing the correct ammount after parts were replaced. The gas caps can usually be found at any car parts store or even Walmart tends to have them.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
kelel01 1 #12 November 24, 2006 I was 16. And I didn't know that - not even until you told me now. I'm sure the QT managed to recover.
jasonRose 0 #13 November 24, 2006 Schucks Auto or Napa should have a new one for your car at around ten bucks. Wrecking yard would probable just give you one for free. Check gas station you went to sometimes people will stick them on top of the pump. Ask station owner they probable have a whole box of them you can have. Some day I will have the best staff in the world!!!

JohnRich 4 #15 November 24, 2006 Quotepaid for my gas...and forgot to replace the cap on the tank! Anyone know what I can do? Too bad, now you're going to have to buy a whole new car. Actually, any auto parts store will have those as replacement parts that you can buy. Someone said you don't really need it: I disagree. In addition to keeping dirt out of your gas tank and clogging up your fuel filter, some gas tanks actually need to pressurize a bit to work properly. And without that pressurization, you get a "check engine" warning light, and your emission controls won't be tuned properly.
