riggerrob 643 #2 March 2, 2007 I am part way through inspecting the 50-ish Vigils installed in our fleet of student rigs. I have not found any cracked cutters. I can only conclude that they are being cracked by riggers who apply more muscle than skill via "positive leverage devices." Since I have never used PLDs, I have never damaged any Vigil cutters. This is just another example of why CSPA has frowned on PLDs since the early 1980s and why several packing manuals ban PLDs. There is a graceful alternative to PLDs, and it consists of nothing more than an old B-12 Snap slipped onto a molar strap. If you wrap that molar strap - diagonally - around your shoulders, the B-12 Snap hangs conveniently in the middle of your chest, a great place to tie on a pull-up cord. In conclusion, real riggers do not need PLDs. Thanks for reading my rant.
