Have You Ever REALLY Been On a 'Sugar High'??

Recommended Posts

:)

Doc asks me to go home, eat as MUCH sugar as possible for 15 minutes, and come back to the lab an hour later. It checks some glucose recovery rate or something like that...pancreatic fundtion something...I don't know. I'm just a silly woman. :P

-Has anyone ever done this or sucked down so much sugar they wanna puke??
I get glucose tests all the time just because of family history, but I've never done one of these super sugar-load thingies!

Blech if I see anything sweet again in the next 10 minutes...B|B|B|

Has anyone eaten so much sugar ya wanted to hurl?? :D:D:D

I've done the full glucose tolerance test where you have to drink a cup of that nasty orange syrupy stuff every hour or so, but I don't recall any particular buzz off of that.

I'm more likely to get the sugar crash after it all wears off ... and that's ugly.[:/]

I hear ya. I'll prolly fall asleep, but I've got coffee to try to help!

I think the only time I ever drank the orange syrup was in the army...I am almost positive it was during my pregnancy. I tested 'normal' for blood glucose challenges back then, and I'm sure I will again. It's just odd that I had never even heard of this kind of 'eat a ton of sugar and come back in an hour' test.

I am a bit jittery, I think that's what all this sugar is doing to me.

I think I'm perfectly normal, medically speaking...:D

The little meter thingy said '87', so I think that's good.

What do I win?? :)

Good health. Appreciate it.

Cheers,

Used to make Gummy Pixies as a teenager.

Put Gummy Bears into a platic sandwich bag. Pour a little Mountain Dew into the bag and shake until the Gummy Bears are sticky. Pour 3-4 Pixie Stix into the bag and shake again until fully coated. B|

One time we even melted them in the microwave and turned them into shooters. :)

Pixie Stix will do you in EVERY time. Why did you make a concoction like that?

In answer to the question, yes, I get majorly high on sugar. I had to reach for a black licorice Twizzler just reading this.

Damn...I'd give my left nu.....uhhh....I mean my...uhhh, never mind...that 87 register on a blood sugar count is outstanding and as a diabetic it would be wonderful if I could score that low. My little meter registers an average of about 110 to 115 and thats the best I can do without a starvation diet and meds. Great news for you, dear.

Hooray for me!!! B|B|B|

-And I'll be cooking for my diabetic brother-in-law for 2 weeks in December, so I guess we'll all be healthier on lower sugar stuff. They have some really cool recipes that diabetics can have nowadays...I've been trying to plan our menus around:

1 diabetic
2 boys that can't have wheat (gluten) OR dairy products
1 Very Italian husband who likes traditional Italian
and
1 mommy that needs to slim down. :)
I have a big task ahead of me.

When I was in Jr. High I downed ALOT of sugar packets one night after an after school function. A couple minutes later I was leaping over 7ft tall book cases without touching them... sugar wow...

you must be type 2

i've been injecting insulin daily and testing blood glucose since i was 10..(type 1)

when i was 12 i ran away from home without my insulin (rebel at heart...had to accept my diabetes by testing how long i could go without insulin)

talk about "sugar high".....without eating any sugar!!
dehydration plus...
pissing all the water i drank out as fast as i drank it, nothing could quench my thirst.

i bought a bag of grapefruits and sucked the juice outa everyone...then puked and puked..took 2 dayz without insulin and i learned for myself-
i am a diabetic...
need insulin-

and headed to the hospital before i was in a comma and never in 30 yrs. have allowed my blood sugars to be that high again
:P

type 1 diabetes- my pancreas gives off no insulin ever...i inject it daily and have complete control and able to keep my blood sugars under 110

type 2 diabetes- pancreas still gives off insulin sporatic and much more difficult to control with meds, diet, and testing blood sugars constantly.
110-115 average will get you many many healthy years!!

I sometimes wish that I had type 1 so I could regulate it better.

So true. Meds and diet is only an educated guess from time to time. The pancreas is a suprising organ that I can't control, altho with close monitoring the natural insulin it produces sporadically with type 2 I have a better jump on it than in past years. I'm looking forward to those years you spoke of, lol, with the testing every day. Unfortunately, my fingers get tired of being stuck for blood all the time so I don't test as often as I should. They (commercials) say that a person can test in different parts of the body now with the new meters but my docs at the VA tell me that other than the fingers, the test can be misleading so I'm "stuck" with sore fingers most of the time.

The only test that I have done is when I was pregnant and they gave me that glucose tolerance test. Drank a full 8 oz glass of sugar (THICK) syrup. Yeah that was pretty hard to choke down and made me feel sick for a day or two.

Sorry to hear that you have to go through such nastiness on a daily basis.
