RSL question

Recommended Posts

Friend is buying my canopy, so I said send the risers and ill hook it up so you wont have to walk down the lines and figure everything out (she has her own links she wants to use). I got the risers and I dont know which side to put the RSL ring on. Container is a 95 jav J2.

The right side(cutaway handle side)!
Old javelins have the rsl on right wearer side! They changed to the left side on the year 199? Please forgive me if I'm wrong!!!!!
Tip: Besides asking your friend, the location of the ring can give you a good clue for you. The ring should be toward the center of the container!

Cheers,

I think you are correct.

I'm nearly positive in 95 it was on the right. I'd suggest just calling the friend and ask.

? I've got a 1995 Javelin (like what the OP is referring to) and the RSL is on the left hand side...

In the event of a hard pull, your housings will compress. The shorter cutaway side does not compress as much and you'll get the right side cutting before the left. That's why a left side RSL makes more sense and probably why javelin switched in the 90s.

The key is to look at the reserve risers for the velcro that the RSL attaches to, that will tell you which side to put it on.
;)

Please have a rigger inspect your assembly prior to letting the canopy be jumped. The packing instructions manual for the harness/container and canopy have assembly instructions. I suggest reading them as well. RSL routing is very important here too among other things.
