CanuckInUSA 0 #9 November 24, 2006 I've been driving a stick since the early 90s. I find they give me much better control. I don't need to use my brakes to slow down, etc, etc, etc (plus I'll take my stick any day in the snow and mud over an automatic). The only down side to a stick is if you injury your arms or your legs and then all of a sudden driving can be difficult if not impossible. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
Skysurfer_Rob 0 #10 November 24, 2006 A friend of mine owned a manual a couple years back. He ended up braking his ankle in a motorcycle accident (his fault, he was a dumbass). He ended up having to drive by using a vaccum extension to push down the clutch with his hands...was one of the funniest things I have ever watched."Though I Fly Through the Valley of Death, I Shall Fear No Evil...For I am at 80,000 Feet and Climbing." eeneR 3 #16 November 24, 2006 Manual transmission...prefered. My current car is, I love it. And it was cheeper then the automatic. Oh and if Im good...better gas mileage too! Tonto 1 #19 November 24, 2006 There are a couple of things I like about Manual. When your battery is flat.. you can push it and start it. When you break down, you can tow it with a rope. It's way lighter on gas. It's way lighter on brakes. You have a variable means of how you apply power to the road surface through the clutch. You can pretty much fix it yourself - unlike automatic gearboxes. tIt's the year of the Pig.

We both have three LSDs. I like them both. Until it died a few months ago, I had an old Ford wagon with auto, and I have the Subaru w/manual. With a 6spd, shifting can get to be annoying, so an auto is a nice change of pace. I like the ideas of the new "best of both" transmissions, DSGs and CVTs. Hopefully my next car will have one of those. SethIt's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less". Gawain 0 #24 November 24, 2006 QuoteI was in the US earlier this month, and looking at car prices, and it seems to me that cars with a manual transmission cost more, so you may be right about that. You must have seen the exception. If a car is available with both, the auto is almost always a cost-adding option. Some exceptions I can think of are possibly some trucks (paired with an engine option), and I believe in a couple of the big-engine sports cars (Corvette and maybe Pontiac GTO), where most of the cars are sold with the auto. The folks that like to drive stick usually not attracted to the cars that don't have them anyway. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
