piisfish 140 #1 February 23, 2007 Are there any considerations to take with soft links and vectran lines as the material is different. Wouldn't one try to cut through the other (more than with similar material) ?scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

Wouldn't one try to cut through the other (more than with similar material) ? There was a debate here whether vectran would cut thu dacron.. I guess best would be to ask PD if they have tested this and what were the results... I assume they have found it to be safe. Also slinks have been used with vectran for a while already.. EDIT: fixed the link

riggerrob 643 #7 February 24, 2007 We have only heard of one PD Slink failing while attached to Vectran lines. Mind you that accident was complicated by badly worn slider grommets, so badly worn that they cut the tab off the end of the Slink. It is believed that Vectran is so abrasive that it ground a hole in a stainless steel slider grommet. Same accident, different day! Ho! Hum! If you remember back to the first Slink failure - shortly after they were introduced ... it involved a slider grommet with a rough edge cutting the tab off a Slink. The slider grommet was originally damaged by banging against steel connector links, but they were too lazy to apply emery cloth to the problem.

piisfish 140 #9 February 24, 2007 would you think that using tandem/reserve slinks (and checking for irregularities on teh grommets) would minimize the risk ? Any counter-indication ?scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
BMFin 0 #10 February 25, 2007 QuoteHow is Dacron relevant to your question? I know slinks are made of spectra I never claimed them to be dacron. I thought Piisfish might be intrested to see this discussion also since his logic behind the question was based on the issue that " they are different material" .
