Help Me Pick a Restaurant...

Recommended Posts

I hate to shop for gifts and end up getting something that someone doesn't want. I've decided to simplify the process. I'm going to give gift certificates to a different restaurant every year. That way the receiver will have a surprise about where they will be eating and a fun night out to look forward to.

Where have you eaten that you would like to go back to? How much would you spend at this restaurant for two people?

Are you talking chain restaurants?

I just sent a restaurant card last week for a gift. The recipient was very happy. It's always nice to eat out on someone else's dime. I Googled her town to see what chains she had there. I ended up giving $40 to Logan's Steakhouse. Others that I considered were Olive Garden, Red Lobster and Outback.

Give me some cities to work with...

The Washington, DC metropolitan area, especially Northern Virginia. I'm assuming a lot of restaurants have locations all over the USA.

I don't know any restaurants in that area, but I think this is a GREAT gift. One of my favorite things to do is eat out, and Travis and I give a lot of gift certificates for Christmas. Less to wrap, and it's a great way to let someone pick out their own present.

Do you have The Melting Pot there? That's a fun place to go if you like fondue, and it's also the kind of place that I wouldn't necessarily spend money on myself but that I enjoy from time to time. It can be pricey, but I've taken people there just for dessert and it's still a lot of fun.

In Houston I would suggest a couple:

The Taste of Texas - pretty much the best steakhouse in South Texas. $100-150 for 2 w/drinks

Mortons - Equally good food as TToT but it's not a local. It's more a franchise or chain if you could call it that. $125-175 for 2 w/drinks

Apart from the Outback (haven't picked out a good local steak joint yet) I stay away from chains since they pretty much guarantee homogenized food that's not a good value.

Many (good) local restraunts offer gift certificates.
