Michele 1 #1 November 30, 2006 Panasonic, 50 inch, plasma. Signed, sealed, delivered to my brother's house with a note to NOT OPEN UNTIL CHRISTMAS. Total price? $2299. Making Dad happy? Priceless. It's so good to see my Dad buying something he knows his son and family will love. It's delightful to see him grin and feel good. And it's priceless to see his face when he makes the arrangements, turns to me, and says "let's go buy a bunch of movies for the family!" My brother will love this, but I think Dad is getting the best of this - he's really happy he can do this for my brother. 'Tis indeed better to give than receive, even when it's a 50 inch plasma tv. Thanks so much for all the help on the other thread... Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
Ashtanga 0 #2 November 30, 2006 My roomate just got a 60" Panosonic. It is sitting in a box on the floor. They were going to charge us $500.00 for installation! I say we try ourselves. Hopefully we don't break it.
BillyVance 35 #3 November 30, 2006 Damn... wonder how much that thing weighs? I have a 35" flat screen TV that weighs like a ton. Took me and a hefty friend to barely lift it up on the TV stand. On the other end of the price spectrum, just bought a 14" flat screen magnavox TV for $60. It's for the video phone. Michele 1 #4 November 30, 2006 I have no idea how much it weighs - only that I don't have to worry about it! LOLOLOL! I think my brother will be totally happy with it, even if he has to get the neighbors to help. And I know Pops is delighted. wildblue 7 #5 November 30, 2006 That's the one I just bought! I'm assuming it's the same model... TH-50PX60U I won't tell you what I paid for it though, 'cause I damn near stole it from the place. It's an excellent set though, your brother & co should be really happy with it. Gawain 0 #6 November 30, 2006 That seems like a really good deal. Where did you get it? Or, was it direct from Panasonic (unlikely I guess, but you never know...)?So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Michele 1 #7 November 30, 2006 WB, I am sure you got a better deal...and Gawain, it's not a bad deal, but you could do better. The problem with Dad is that he doesn't like negotiating. Doesn't like shopping around, even. Just decides what he wants, goes to a reputable dealer, pays what they ask, and is happy. Me? I like to shop around, especially when it's something like this. But Dad got uncomfortable when I told the guy I could find it at three other places for less...so I stopped negotiating. Except I got free shipping and delivery, and because it's headed to Oregon, there was no sales tax, and they threw in a 1 year unlimited service contract for free...I could've gotten it for a few hundred less via the net, or at one other store...but...well, Dad didn't want to bother. So that's the best I could manage... We got it at Circuit City. I know Best Buy had it for less several days earlier, and I'll bet a donut that closer to Christmas it will be less expensive, too. So what I'll do is lurk the 'net searching for an advertisement or something, and make CC hold the promise "if you find it for less within 30 days, we'll refund you the difference." So my bargaining isn't quite done yet...lol. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

BillyVance 35 #10 November 30, 2006 Quote Billy - without the stand, it's about 90lbs. Is it one of those thin models like you see lately on the Extreme Home Makeover shows? Michele 1 #11 November 30, 2006 If WB has the same as we do (and the numbers match), yes, it's the skinny one. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

Good plan there girlie I think you should take at least some of the difference and buy yourself something too. And you're right - BestBuy and Circuit had it for $1999 over the weekend. I'm sure it'll hit that again before the end of the year. But I like to haggle, and I didn't even pay that I blame my stint as a salesman for that... But Dad doesn't, so...since it makes him uncomfortable, I stopped. It's like haggle interruptus, but then again, Dad was happy. So hey, it's all good. And like I said, I can promise that it will be less before the first of the year, so the deal isn't quite yet done. I'll do all that without Dad around, so he isn't uncomfortable and I can do my work in peace . And then just have them credit his card with the difference. Surprise him that way, you know? LOLOLOL! ImGunnaJump 0 #14 November 30, 2006 I need a haggling tutuorial from you and WB. I research prices, go in feelin' like I know what is a reasonable price, but then the salesman always comes up with some reason why it isn't, and they don't budge and I get worn down quickly by it all, kinda like Michelle's dad - I just want it over. I want a good deal, but hate the whole haggle process 'cuz I'm not good at it, like there's some missing link, a bottom line secret to it all that I don't know. I feel like I have a handle on how to get a good price on a used car, believe it or not, but buying electronics throws me. How do you guys come up with, as WB says, "a price I want to pay"...do you just compare adds in local sales papers or is there a web site that is commonly used for pricing that I can rely on for a reasonable price? Or do you just say screw all that, and just throw out whatever number and see if they'll bite???? I need some 'hagglin' 101 lessons"...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." The biggest thing is: you have to be willing to walk away from it. If it's something you already decided to really want or need it right now, you lose all control in the deal. I actually walked away from the tv deal I got twice before because the price wasn't what I wanted to pay. The car I have now, I bought used - it was exactly what I wanted. I bought from a private party. Went to look at it, made what I thought was a fair offer right there, they said no. I said "ok, thanks" and got back in my car. I wasn't 10 minutes down the road when they called me and said "well, ok, we'll take that" I'm glad they didn't see me do the little dance when I hung up it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
