moodyskydiver 0 #1 November 30, 2006 I have never been a big "vibes thread" person, but tonight I desperately ask for your help. My father had major cartiledge repair surgery on his right knee yesterday.Today he got up with massive chest pains, typical of a heart attack..pressure and pain in the chest, radiating down the arm and up into his neck.My mother (an RN) laid him down as he almost collapsed and gave him a nitro pill and asprin. She called the doc who did his surgery and she was told to get him to the ER immediately b/c he could have thrown a blood clot loose and worked its way into his lungs or heart etc. which is potentially fatal. My father spent from 10AM to 7PM in the local ER.All his vitals,2EKGs and a CT scan all came back normal but they have no idea what is still causing him continuous pain/pressure in his chest.Hes been on a steady nitro patch and morphine. At 7PM he was sent via medical transport to the Heart/Cardio center at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. I was already on my way to my parents' house to help out for a few days when I got the call on the situation and spent most of the day in the ER with him and my family.I called my husband at work at the correctional facility and he was released from work to come here as a family emergency. While leaving a gas station from refueling his car and on his way to our house to grab some essential items and change out of his uniform he was cut off by a big SUV in which several gang members jumped out and rushed him with knives in an attempt to either rob him, carjack him,or assault him b/c he was a prison officer in uniform...either way, we're unsure of their intentions. But,my husband was able to get to a gun kept in the car and fired atleast one round into the door of the SUV.At this point the gang members got back in the car and sped off.Luckily a cop was passing by and witnessed the entire affair. My husband was not charged with any citations for discharging a firarm since it was in self defense nor was he charged with carrying a concealed gun w/o a CHL b/c he was considered "traveling" at the time of the incident, thus TX law states no CHL is needed if you are considered traveling/in transit.A full description of the SUV including license plate number was recorded and given to local law enforcement to issue warrents for attempted assault/robbery.Thankfully,my husband was unharmed and safe. My husband and I are now together, safe at my parents' place awaiting news from my mom on my dad's condition in Dallas. Our county is currently under a thunderstorm and tornado warning/watch through early tomorrow morning.A nasty winter storm is blowing through, dropping the temp 30-40 degrees in the last 2hrs.We're expected to get ice, freezing rain, hail and some snow tonight and through tomorrow evening,so my husband and I will be unable to drive to Dallas tomorrow to be with my dad. I am beyond worried...I'm scared.Between worry over my father and then learning about my husbands incident I have been near hysterical.Watching my dad loaded up into an ambulance and knowing I couldnt help or follow and learning my husband was in such a dangerous possibly life-threatening experience has been one of the worst moments I've ever had.I'm so worried for my father and cant help but be reminded that my grandfather died from a heart attack which makes me even more afraid and worried. I am not a religious person. But I am not above asking for help of any kind.If that makes me a hypocrit, then thats fine if it will help my father right now. So I ask, of those of you who believe in the power of prayer, please keep my family in mind as you do so.He has already been placed on the prayer list of my aunt's church as well as my sister's and members of her church came to the hospital to pray with him and give him a priesthood anointed blessing. For those of you who are not religious, if you would please keep us in your thoughts or send vibes our way I will be eternally grateful to you all. Thank you. "...just an earthbound misfit, I." So I ask, of those of you who believe in the power of prayer, please keep my family in mind as you do so Of course you're not a hypocrit, Amber. You really aren't. You and your family will be in my prayers until you ask me to stop. And know that you have friends far and wide who will be doing the same thing. I can say I am so glad you and your husband are here, that your father is getting incredible care, and that your Mom has you to lean on. If you need to talk, don't hesitate to shoot me a pm. I know how you're feeling and I know that sometimes a person listening can help. And again, know that I pray for your health, your father's healing, strength for your mother, and your husband's safety. Hugs, darlin. Hang in there. ImGunnaJump 0 #16 December 1, 2006 Wow...pretty frightening stuff going on in your world now. You and your family are definitely in my prayers! As before, PM me if you think I can help with anything besides the prayers - I'll do what I can. Hang in there. moodyskydiver 0 #18 December 2, 2006 To everyone who has kept my family in their thoughts, prayers, all the wonderful vibes and flood of offered help and kind words via PM...thank you so much. You have no idea how much it helped and meant to us. My father has been released from the hospital under strict instructions to stay in bed or reclined on the couch w/his knee elevated...very minimum mobility. So I'm trying to take care of him so my mom can go back to work.Hopefully things will run smoothe since I was my grandmother's caretaker aswell and kinda know the ropes...only my dad is more onery than she was and doesnt mind as well. Apparently,my dad wasnt as healthy as would have been optimal for him to withstand surgery.Hes a workaholic who only sleeps about 3hrs a day, plus a heavy smoker and doesnt eat right. So when he had the knee surgery it put his body under too much stress and thus the chest pains.Doctors have attributed them to severe reflux compounded by the stress of the surgery vs. his natural way of life (no sleep+lots of smoking etc).Plus he had to quit smoking a week before the surgery and 2weeks post surgery so that added more stress(luckily he said that if he has to go that long w/o a cig,he might as well quit for good.)All cardio and respiratory possibilities have been ruled out as well as blood clot, embolism and anurism. The chest pains/pressure has stopped but now we have some minor issues with the stitches and wound bleeding a bit and a good deal of pain to deal with. So now its just the two of us (hubby went back home/to work today)with a buttload of meds and a polar care machine (constant icepack basically). We're not out of the woods yet,but we atleast have a trail headed that way. Again, everyone thank you so much.I am humbly in your debt. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
