skycat 0 #1 December 5, 2006 I've noticed more and more that I'm the only one to bring hostess/Host gifts to gatherings. This was something my own mother never did, but when I moved to Texas and saw the tradition I quickly picked it up because I felt it was a great way to show my appreciation for being invited and the time to took to put the event on. I'm not talking anything expensive, something simple like flowers, a bottle of wine, a cute jar of hot chocolate, or whatever would fit the occasion. So is it just me, is this tradition dead?Fly it like you stole it!

SmilingPhoenix 0 #10 December 5, 2006 I don't think it's dead, I think it's just what you have experienced. I didn't do it until I moved to Texas either, but now I never go empty handed. Besides, a good bottle of wine doesn't have to cost a lot, but it gives you a reason to drink Because life is an adventure - it may not be the one you planned, but then it wouldn't be an adventure! skycat 0 #11 December 5, 2006 I wonder if it's a southern tradition which would be why my northern family and friends never did it. Maybe I'm hanging out with to many northerners. Fly it like you stole it!
skymama 37 #12 December 5, 2006 QuoteYeah... And they happen to be cool, nice people who also bring us wine when they come over... You can come over to my place anytime you like. I usually bring at least a bottle of wine. AggieDave 6 #13 December 5, 2006 I typically don't bring a "hostess/host gif" but I'll bring a bottle of wine, a bottle of JD or some beer, etc. Its given to the host, but typically as an addition to the gathering.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." livendive 8 #17 December 6, 2006 I think there was a thread about the etiquette of bringing wine a year or two ago. If I remember correctly, there was some substantial disagreement on the propriety of the host not opening it or something like that. That said, I usually take wine when going to that kind of party.
