DickMcMahon 0 #1 December 6, 2006 What's happened to the art of "presentation" at the movies? Does anyone know of a theatre that still begins and ends the main feature by opening & closing a curtain? If it's because of automation, can't a curtain pull also be automated?

wildcard451 0 #3 December 6, 2006 Yeah dude, we should def use curtains at movies because holy shit we might see.......A BLANK SCREEN. A curtain is just a great way to blank screen a live performance. Therefore curtain = not needed at movies. And once again i have come to the rescue of another stupid post today. NWFlyer 2 #4 December 6, 2006 Yes, the Cinerama in Seattle still does it. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. skydiver30960 0 #5 December 6, 2006 sorry dude if there was a curtain then they couldn't bombard all the early-arrivers with those damn slide-show ads for crappy soft drinks and whatnot. Of course that's before the thirty minutes of real commercials once the theater gets dark. And those are before the forty five minutes of previews. Remember when it used to be about actually seeing a movie? )sigh(....
SpeedRacer 1 #6 December 6, 2006 There's a theater in Frederick, Maryland that still sometimes shows old silent films. And they have this guy that plays this old Wurlitzer organ that was installed in that theatre back in the 1920s. It even has sound effects (bells, train whistles, etc.) I go to see it every chance I get. One of the great things about some old silent films is that conventions were still being worked out. Some of those films are pretty cool and experimental. And some films (I'm thinking, The Thief of Baghdad) had pretty cool special effects considering the primitive technology of that time. I bet you don't like the twisted orange slice on the side of your steak when it's served.
