America's BEST living actor

Recommended Posts

Have to mention Scott Glenn, and I agree about Cuba Gooding Jr(Instinct-great flick as well). However I believe Sir Anothony Hopkins is English. And Mel Giblson is Australian. And Robin Williams has got to be the most awesome of all. I just love most movies he has done. Since we mentioned English actors as well, Alan Rickman. What about Christopher Lloyd? I like him too! :)
I've learned.... That being kind is more important than being
right.

1) Billy, now you see why I DID NOT make this my next poll subject: way too much potential for drifting.

2) Christian Bale?

a)Isn't he now known for being the second least popular Batman behind George See Previous Poll Clooney?
b)And what the f*ck country is he from anyway?

3) Robert Deniro has voluntarily surrendered his eligibility for such polls. (See: Analyze That, Analyze This, Showtime and Meet the Fockers. ......better yet, DON'T)

4) Al Pacino gets the Lifetime Achievement Award

5) But gotta give the Gold to Kayzer Soze from American Beauty. Silver to Tom Hanks since only about three of the guys on your list have ever bothered to cry or die on screen. Bronze to Ed Norton.

With Junior Honors to Johnny Depp for versatility and Sam Rockwell (Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Matchstick Men, Box of Moonlight, Charlie's Angels) for being as f*cked-up-cool as Depp, but doing it much longer on the "Indie" tip.

Tip: Rent Safe Men, this is a funny f*cking White Man!

P.S. Leo is a bitch.
Two good roles: One as a kid who needs a playground helmet, and another where he's blowing guys in the subway station toilet. But what's he done since puberty?

My dad played Uncle Leo on Seinfeld. He is most recognized for that - world wide. But he has a history of 55-60 years of acting, in supporting roles to such people as Clint Eastwood, Dustin Hoffman, and that cadre.

NO SH*T! I was just watching one of the best westerns ever AGAIN this morning and I said to myself: "Heh, that's Uncle Leo." Then he got shot and spit on. In that order.
But I don't believe it. If you're Pop really is the guy (the second guy) whose dead forehead Josey Wales spits tobacco goo on, I'll have to see a photo for proof.

"To hell with buryin' them. (spit) Buzzards gotta eat, ...same as worms.." :ph34r:Man, that's some cold sh*t to say about a dude!

A good actor is one that is versatile in many different roles and can become the character. I would have to say that Brad Pitt (not just cause he's sexy) fits the bill. Think about his movies: Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Fight Club, Troy, Interview with a Vampire, Kalifornia, 12 Monkeys...the list goes on. He is an amazingly diverse actor.

I must also say that Christian Bale is the man. He was outstanding in Batman Begins, American Psycho and should have received an Academy for The Machinist!

Some actors that we are led to believe are good actors, always play the same character and same roles. Boring. That's why everyone flipped when Robin Williams played weird bad guys in One Hour Photo and Insomnia. He was surprisingly good. :)

What's funniest is seeing how many planks think half these people are actually AMERICAN. hahahahaha

Or (MUCH more likely) it just degenerated into discussing good actors and this crowd doesn't much care where they are from.

Your bias toward nationality is showing, you should put that thing back in it's pocket.

When's the last time you actually read the thread title in a thread longer than 2 pages long?

Tom Hanks sucks - he got worse and worse each year after leaving Bosom Buddies. Although some of his films were pretty good, he was personally lame.

Lots of posts here about the films, not the actors.

Mel Gibson played Braveheart, Sean Connery thinks he is Braveheart;)

That's a great response. (and Sean is old enough to have seen it in person too)

I think he's an absolutely outstanding actor. Although I haven't seen any of his latest movies but the few I saw he was always brilliant in (Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Sleepless in Seattle, You've got mail, The green mile, Big, Saving private Ryan etc.)

That's cool. I just feel that Hanks ego stands-out too much in his films.

I vote for Adrien Brody (no clue on his nationality, but I don't care), Tom Hanks, and Kevin Spacey. :)

I don't think, it matters much, where an actor/actress is from. If, they're good... they're good.
What matters is, you like them and spend the money to see their films so they can live the lifestyle they've gotten accustomed to.:D

Some of them are in the first post and poll options.

That's a good point, Truman.

An alternative is just misreading or ignoring the overall question in the first place. Since 'best' in

"America's BEST living actor"

Is capitalized, I wonder how many people just saw "....BEST....actor" and then clicked and saw the list and went for it. I suspect dead actors aren't listed here as this is generally a young crowd and speak mostly to last week's theator visits.

Sure, it's satisfying, fun and self validating to think other people are stupid and comment on it.

;) It's also just as cool (and self serving) to think people are careless and comment on it. And pretend that's any better......

I like to think we don't care where actors come from, just if they do a great job and don't get all wierd just because people know them.

Pitt seems to alternate between extreme suckage and extremely interesting - for every 12 Monkeys and Fight Club there's Seven (doing his Keanuweenie impersonation) and urm, everything else he's ever been in.

Bale's welsh, went to school in the south of england. Was the kid in Empire of the Sun and was insanely good as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho.

Robin Williams is a horribly shitty actor - who simply does simpering fawning Sympathy guy or bounce around and ad lib happy guy. Except for the one where he was a robot, but I thank the director for that. Otherwise he's shitty.

TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.

I don't think people are stupid - just 'Americocentric'.

What you see here in this thread is people assuming that if an actor speaks English they must be American; assuming that if they've seen them in Hollywood movies they must be American.

I just noted the fact and found it amusing; that is all. :)
