Mobile phone / car electrician gurus - Any idea?

Recommended Posts

In todays modern times every single handset seems to have Bluetooth capabilities but as we know it is dangerous, foolish and often illegal to use your phone whilst driving :|:D

HOWEVER: All the Bluetooth handsfree kits I see are shit. They are the crappy cigar lighter ones with a speaker or the big tusk type ones that make you look like a complete prick.

The only hands free kit I would install in my car would be a professional one that is wired through the stereo but I cant seem to find one that does this. The reasoning being if I buy a model specific hands free kit and get it installed then when I replace my handset I have to have another kit fitted which means more mucking around with electrics and damage to vehicle fittings/trim. Surely someone must have thought of this as a good design. One hands free kit for life of the vehicle regardless of phone.

Anyone know if there is such a product? I can't seem to find one anywhere

To make short a long story.
I have got a JVC car stereo which has got an AUX analogic input (3.5mm jack), I used this input to listen to my iPod/palm PC through car loudspeakers.
I have got also a Nokia N70; I bought an adapter that plugs into the bopttom of phone and ends with an incorporated mic and a socket for a 3.5mm jack.
With a male-male 3.5mm jack cable (the same I use with iPod/palm PC) I connect phone with car stereo.
When an incoming call pops in, I accept the call pressing the right button on phone, mic on adapter collects my voice and I listen to the other folk through car loudspeakers.
I am most of time alone so I keep the phone itself on the passenger seat, but a simple phone holder can be placed on air vents or wherever else.
Hope it helps.
Stay safe out there

I don't believe that you'll encounter this problem. Most headsets will pair with any bluetooth capable device.

Motorola makes one that can be connected with some vehicle audio systems.

That page gave absolutely no information on the product. Why would motorola make a webpage like that? :S

My brother worked as a technician repairing stuff for motorola and I'd rather stay well clear of them to be honest. They suck

Sorry mate, wasn't directed at you. I appreciate your help, just find it odd that they have a page saying how great the product is but not much 'real info' :)
Eg.. fits MOST cars, MOST handsets will work.

But its OK cos I can be like a racing driver :D What a crock of shit, poor poor marketing to match their poor poor quality work [:/]

Check out these reviews from cNet: http://reviews.search.com/search?target=&q=bluetooth%20hands%20free%20car%20kits&tag=srch

There's not much input, but there's the Parrot, Sony, Motorola, Nokia...etc.
