bertusgeert 1 #26 December 11, 2006 As I am digressing from studying for my final tomorrow morning at 8a.m., I am theorizing that my friend (an English Major) probably bamboozled me with his ability to construct non-existent vernacular. I believed him on the basis that he previously educated me about the word "sesquipedalian". This word can be used in a similar fashion, although usually prompted by slightly different circumstances. For example: "Antidisestablishmentarianism", often referred to as one of the longest words in the english language is definitely sesquipedalian. *Note "anti-dis" is in fact a double negative in the word itself. I just called my old friend, asked him, and he had no idea. Now I am sure he was bamboozeling. He did however tell me of a new cool word I will certainly use, in particular when referring to my amazing girlfriend: Cherubic: having a sweet nature befitting an angel or cherub; "an angelic smile"; "a cherubic face" --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei! NWFlyer 2 #29 December 11, 2006 I've always really loved schadenfreude, particularly since we don't have an equivalent word in English. I also like myriad. But only if used correctly, and since the vast majority of people do not use it correctly, it tends to annoy me."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

Just when I was hoping to meet them all. Even more so, hoping they would all use the word 'myriad' in my presence. Sometimes life just kicks you in the nuts. ACMESkydiver 0 #36 December 11, 2006 I think my favorite word of all time is 'Serendipity', defined: n.Pure luck in discovering things you were not looking for. n.The act of finding something valuable or delightful when you are not looking for it. It used to mean 'the randomness of fate', but evolved into a more positive meaning. My second favorite word is 'Serenity', because to me, speaking the word evokes the very feelings of its meaning. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. We have a guy at work who has a word-of-the-day calendar. He uses the word all day and spends a lot of time explaining the definition. This creates two problems. 1- The purpose of using a word is communication. If nobody understands the words, it is pointless. 2- He used a lot of words incorrectly and didn't understand the printed definition. Kinda like telling the other guys on the crew that the English word for forklift is buttwipe.
