Where do I go from here?

Recommended Posts

I started back in '01 also, and moved closer to the DZ I started at just to have it close. Then went to another DZ, only to find I wasnt progressing as I wantd, then to a large, team oriented DZ. Then after a few years of marriage, carrers, etc, we (Hottie and I) decided we needed a change. Not that we hadnt made LOADS of friend along the way, some of which I wish I could vist much more often, but we needed those friends AND a community.
Then one night, at a DZ, I was chatting with a well known DZ.commer. Telling him my story, and that we were looking for new things: different scene, carrer opportunities, culture (i know WTF?), etc. I told him we'd considered moving to ATL.
His response: "so do it."
I rambled on about billz, etc...
His response: "ok, so be a pussy about it. You'll either do it, or talk about it."
My response: "Youre right. Were moving"
We moved a month later, and havent looked back.
Mind you I did do my research: housing, jobs, and most importantly drop zones.

I travel the world for work. Ive been to loads of drop zones, and called many 'home'. Ive made so many friends, everywhere. I now seldom stray from the ATL area. 7 nights a week theres something happening, its not uncommon to have 5-12 friends together on a Tuesday night. This is my new family.

I really didnt know what I was looking for until I found it. Ive never felt closer to the skydiving community, while being able to have nice dinners with close friends, or going to a museum, or just hanging watching some football on a Saturday, when we should have been jumpin.

My suggestion: look for those things that intrest you, not just the jumping. Then look for those things close to a well known, friendly DZ. The rest I believe, will come. :)

it sounds a little bit like Big Fish small pond becoming little fish in a big pond..that takes quite a bit of getting used too.
Perservere, it will come good and you'll find your place.

I'd have to agree... Moving to California is not easy. I moved here (from a small town) in 92, and at times I still don't feel at ease. It does get better, and where I'm living now I feel more at home/peace with myself and surroundings. It takes time.

Good luck Jason! Be strong!
