usedtajump 1 #38 December 19, 2006 About five years ago our extended family on both my and my wife's side decided that to bring back the enjoyment of the holidays that we would despense with the drudgery of gift giving. Since that wise decision, Christmas has been so much more of a pleasure in that when we get together its just for the joy of seeing others you don't get to see that often. It has been so liberating. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

Since that wise decision, Christmas has been so much more of a pleasure in that when we get together its just for the joy of seeing others you don't get to see that often. It has been so liberating. I've been trying to get my family to do this. I love giving and getting gifts when there is thought involved and the gift really means something, but I detest having to come up with ideas for gifts because you have to give one, or having people spend money on me when I just don't feel it is necessary, or even worse, asking me for a list of what I want. The last few years I have just tried to do something for my family as a whole without giving individual gifts. Last year I bought a few fun family type games and we decided on a day that the whole famliy would stay home and hang out. This year, since my siblings will all be visiting my parents for the first time in a while I'm going to get a family picture taken and get a framed copy for everyone.Killing threads since 2004. yardhippie 0 #40 December 19, 2006 See! This is "the holidays" for me! My anniversary is xmas eve, the xmas. In 5 years, this is the first with a tree, but still no presants. whoohoo! I do things for my wife, friends and others throughout the year. I consider that 'giving'. Why should I have to give "and extra amount" this time of the year than any other just b/c marketing tells me so? Also, this year, I get to spend xmas with my Mom for the first time in 5 years. For the first time I'm cooking HER dinner. The whole thing, complete with the dishes she used to cook for us as kids. Im excited about that. I took my wife out to a super nice dinner last friday, it was simply amazing. She told me the next day not to plan for anything more for our anno or xmas, cuz that dinner was what she wanted. I just want to hang with family/friends and enjoy some great company, have some drinks, eat until I'm miserable, and pass out in the wee hours of the am.
