911 calls and media response time

Recommended Posts

So it's 00:30 and I'm typing away at my computer. I hear a car whooshing by on the street in front of my place. Then I hear the impact. That's some pretty good speed when you can hear it through the double panes. And it's a 60 kmh zone (until you've had a few, apparently).

I look outside and see the remnants of a car, half way up the block, parts of it strewn about. Really it was just half a car. And a van that's usually parked on the street, moved considerably. Other motorists are already stopping to assist, so I call 911.

Pretty good response time (about 6 minutes - not bad during the holiday season). What gets me is the news crew that is on the scene in 5 minutes. It shouldn't surprise me, since the media scans the police radios. But jeez, :S

Oh yeah, drunk driver, nice and relaxed when he sailed into the van, so it looks like he'll be fine. :|

Must be nice that the media don't have to clear prior calls for service to get going to a major accident scene.[:/]

The news guy looked a little tentative, since he wasn't there to help. So he stayed in his suburban assault vehicle until the flashy lights were there. Makes for better footage. :$
