First responder kit

Recommended Posts

A few symposia ago I did a presentation on First Aid for the DZ, subtitled 'What NOT to do'. I still have it somewhere but probably on my old lap top.

With advanced life support not far away from most DZ's it doesn't need to be extensive. And needs to be accessible to only those trained/licensed to use it.

But, the other thing to remember is that you may need the kit for the 'rest' of the DZ. The heart attack the mother has watching. The broken leg the kid has falling off the PLF tower. The bee sting and poison ivy.

What ever level your trained at with the trauma stuff. Traction splint, other splints, backboard, c collar, blood stoppers etc. etc. But in reality if you can keep the doctors away (no offense, I have a story for the other thread) and the idiot skydivers away and keep the jumper from walking into the club house with a broken back you way ahead of the game.

BTW if you have an old timer around ask them how to do a tree rescue. ;)

I'm old for my age.

I'm thinking about the basics, non-perishables like gauze, scissors, airsplints, etc.. That could expand exponentially if you include spectators.

If you still have your presentation, I love to get a copy. It would likely be a good topic at Safety Day.

As for tree landings, my first thought was "cut the tree down". Actually I'm old school and know some of the tricks previously presented, including deploying your reserve and sliding down (the outside of) the lines. There was a guy that ended up in a tree after a CRW wrap. The limbs eventually let go and he fell the last 15-20 feet, where we caught him in a 252 parafoil.
