OMG, how do people pay that??!

Recommended Posts

So I'm shopping around for a new personal trainer/gym as my current one is too far away now that we've moved. :( I pay $170/month which is pretty cheap.

Found a new place near the house so I decided to stop by at lunch time and take a tour. http://www.fitnesstogether.com/

Really nice, small facility. Private training suites, free water/fruit - nice clean showers. Plus, I really like the guy.

Sit down in his office and talk money. Took everything to not laugh at him.

Only $2,679.01... for 3 months?! :o

IS HE FREAKIN' KIDDING?? The only people who can afford that must have half of the fee paid by their work or something, cause thats just ridiculous! :S

YMCA, here I come :D

Does that include unlimited personal training? Cuz that's the only way I could see spending that kind of money.:S

That's insane. Was it a rehab facility? Because it if it was, it's covered by insurance, and that's why it was expensive. Otherwise, no way in hell. $79 a month, New York Sports Club.

haha, that's funny - I don't even think that your 170 is cheap... B|:ph34r::ph34r:

Yeah, seriously. Around here that would be the high-high end clubs. Even those are cheaper than that, I think. I pay $35 a month; my gym is pretty no-frills but it has great classes and everything I want. I think the most I ever paid was $70/month.

36 sessions or 3 times a week for 3 months...

I'm still in shock here.... wow

Okay, so that's $75/session including gym fees. Doesn't seem too far out of line, actually.

Not a rehab facility... and only 4 pieces of cardio equipment. Definitely NOT a gym, which I like... but its WAY too much money.

$170 is cheap considering my trainer is $40/hr. once a week... I only pay $10/month for my gym membership.

So he charges about $75.00 an hour for his professional services.

I dont think thats all that outrageous.

Still, I think having a personal trainer is a total waste of money.

You can find out all you need to know by reading, doing research on the internet, and asking other people.

If you need someone to "motivate" you or make you do just one more rep, well...I dont know what to say to ya other than get your ass in gear.
If you can do it because he told you to, you can do it without him.

Motivate yourself.

I've been bodybuilding for years and have never had a personal trainer.

That's easier said than done. What you catch that way is a bit here and a bit there but no idea as to how to put it together or why it's put together that way. I had classes on it in college and was a Div I college athlete with trainers on hand to work with me on designing a program for my exact goals and exact body type.

If I were to tell someone where to begin then I'd tell them to take a course at a local school, get a 2 year subscription to a fitness magazine, and then hire a personal trainer long enough to pick their brain to figure out your workouts. Beyond that I think a personal trainer is pointless beyond therapy.

Edit: My gym fees are at Sport and Health at Tyson's Corner, VA. It's a sweet gym with all sorts of frills but is pretty weak on the strength training. Anyway, it's tailored for the corporate types but only costs (my company) $80/month. I think the shmo's who walk in off the street pay $110.

My gym is $30/per month. It has lots of fitness equipment and free weights. An indoor track, basketball & volleyball courts. And the $30 includes all the classes i wanna take too. I currently take kickboxing, yoga, step aerobics, and group power.

I did hire a personal trainer, but since i'm a gym member i only pay her $25 an hour. Also since i prepaid for 6 sessions of personal training, i get 2 free sessions with her, plus 2 sessions with a nutritionist.

The only thing my gym doesn't offer is massages. :(

How long is a session?

My company started paying for a membership there as an employee benefit this year. They charge us $98 per month per employee! >:( Maybe it's based on the number of employees.
