Fast food tipping: Sonic

Recommended Posts

I don't. Alot of people seem to do it because they bring the food out to you.

I generally reserve tipping for people who are actually working on a waiter-wages (here it is ~$2.13/hr) and are truly working for their tips. Sonic employees make minimum wage or better... if they want more money, get a different job.

Thats my thought to.

Would you tip a McDs employee? Then why would you tip Sonic -they do the same work and get the same pay. Plus, they knew taking the order out to the car was a job requirement prior to working there (or at least I would hope so!), so if you don't like it, don't work there - and certainly don't expect a 'tip' for it.

I don'tgo to sonic, but if go to a fast food place I don't tip. It'slike tipping the clerk at 7-11

And I tip for the service. If the service suck, than so does the tip.

I USED to feel guilty about leaving a poor tip. But I learned to dislike a shitty waiter/ waitress.

Having been a waiter a ta wedding hall before I know how ridiculous the customers can be so I try to make it easy for them but in the event they forget about my main dish after my third time asking and 30 minutes AFTER everyone else at my table is FINISHED eating their main meal. I leave a tip....

It was a note that "Next time, said don't forget about me and you'll get a tip."

I even suggested that the rest of the table not leave a tip since their service was substandard, too.

EDIT on the other side. I once tipped a pizza delivery guy $50 because he was very quick had a great attitude and after ward he offered me the extra pizza that the previous ordered did not buy.

This was a pizza place that I had dealt with on a semi regular basis back in the day. He was a regular delivery guy. I tipped him $50 on three pizzas.

On the rare occasions I go into a McD's or similar I have never tipped, inside or at the drive thru.
I do go to a drive-in for coneys, like an A&W. In fact, it used to be an A&W. I tip the girls who come out to take my order and bring it to my car, rain or shine. Usually a buck or two, that's about it since they make a little over minimum. The tip just gets me faster service when I go and an occasional free rootbeer float:)

That's pretty much it. Besides, Sonic is fast food. You don't tip at fast food restaurants.

I tip at Sonic. I don't tip at other fast food joints. It's simple to me really - the sonic workers actually bring your food out to your car - a personal service that is tip worthy. I don't have a lot of money, but I'm sure at least .50 would be just fine.

I actually dated a girl for 3 years who worked at Sonic as a Car-hop - She said that she got tips from about 60% of the cars, but the guys were about 20%. She did pretty good for herself at that job.

I dont tip...ever. Well that for be being in the UK where it just doesnt happen.

Also if you tip in the UK and get it added to your card the resturants owner can legally take that money and use it to pay his staff so his wage bill is lower and they dont get any more.

Grrrrr

I figure those kids are working hard for what they get. If I order $10 worth of food and let them have the coin change.........it's not exactly breaking me and over the whole shift it should add up to a few extra bucks. They have to get beer money from somewhere right? :P

As a waiter or waitress you are supposed to report your tips to the IRS (I never did) so their hourly wage is less because tips are SUPPOSED to make up for it.

As a waitress, gosh, more than 10 years ago now I made $1.85/hr. and the tips sucked.

Sonic pays the waitstaff min wage or higher. Waitstaff in resturants and bars make 2 bucks or less a hour. I dont tip at sonic. Unlike in a resturant fast food does not bring me refills, nor ask me if I need anything else throughout my meal to make it more enjoyable.
Sudsy Fist: i don't think i'd ever say this
Sudsy Fist: but you're looking damn sudsydoable in this

Someone just told me that they always tip the gal/guy that brings your order to your car.

I had no idea you had to do that...

Do you tip in fast food?

I've been going to Sonic since I was a little kid... and I think it was very customary (to do at Sonic) 20+ years ago. So I still do tip them occasionally, because it is what I was taught. I do not tip at any other fast food restaurants. It doesn't make a great deal of sense... but once again, it is what I saw growing up.
