AggieDave 6 #26 January 11, 2007 Oh, I was reading today that Cisco had TMed the term "iPhone" back in 2000. So the name might change and it might slow the release of the product.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Slappie 9 #27 January 11, 2007 Yes everything I've read is Apple jumped the gun a bit the other day. Cisco has a pretty iron clad case. Even says Apple was in negotiation with them to get the rights to use the name. Cisco claims the Apple attorneys never returned the contracts signed etc.. etc.. and here is Steve Jobs announcing the new biggest gadget ever with a name that's patented by another company. DiggerDan 0 #29 January 11, 2007 I don't get the title of this thread. Why the comparison to the Creative Zen?? I mean how can you compare a $200 media player to a $500 phone/media player/internet device? They are apples and oranges. It's like saying that my laptop is way better than an ipod. Not to mention that the "iphone" is not even a reality yet. I mean, can I get one? No. So, all this is right now is Apple introducing a device that may be released this summer. And when/if it is, then we can have one for a $500 bill. And that is only if you want to be strictly limited to Apple, Mac, itunes, and Cingular. Yeah, the thing looks cool. But aren't we jumping the gun here a little saying it is the best thing out??

skymedic 0 #31 January 11, 2007 They were in negotiations right up till 8pm monday night. BUT this wont delay the release of the iPhone. Apple will end up getting there way. They have been very good in the past about keeping to a timeline. when they say it will be shipped in june there is a strong chance it will ship in june. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman.... Thanatos340 1 #32 January 11, 2007 QuoteThey were in negotiations right up till 8pm monday night. BUT this wont delay the release of the iPhone. Yep. They will move forward and deal with the lawsuit that follows later. They did the same thing with the release of the iPod. Creative Labs held patents on much of the technology behind the iPod. Apple knew this but moved forward anyway. Apple finally settled the patent infringements last year for a lump sum of $100 Million to Creative Labs and a portion of all future iPod sales. Also Creative agreed to make accessories for the ipod as part of the settlement deal.
Slappie 9 #33 January 11, 2007 QuoteI don't get the title of this thread. Why the comparison to the Creative Zen?? I had previously posted about "What mp3 Player do I want?" and it was found I wanted the Creative Zen Vison: M So it's a bit misleading to those who aren't around much. skymedic 0 #34 January 11, 2007 QuoteAlso Creative agreed to make accessories for the ipod as part of the settlement deal. That was apple's way of throwing Creative a little bone on top of the other parts of that. As Jobs said creative was very fortunate to just beat out apple with there patents of the menu system used by the iPod. that is the only "technology" that Apple took. DiggerDan 0 #35 January 11, 2007 So, now that you see this thing, you are going to wait til June and pay $500 for it. Along with the other accounts you will have to open just to use it? I thought you were looking for an mp3 player.

I thought you were looking for an mp3 player. I am.. but I'm also an impulse buyer. BUT to answer your question. No I'm not going to buy one of these. The Creative ZVM is the player I'm going to purchase. I have a decent phone. I'm not away from a computer long enough to justify a email/web browser phone. And who the fuck wants to look at my vacation pics? The memory is way to small to be worth a mp3 / video player. 8gs isn't enough to hold a decent music library, a couple tv shows and a movie or two. Neat phone though for those who will use it to it's full potential. Broke 0 #37 January 11, 2007 QuoteQuoteit'll require you to use Iphone service. Cingular. Well atleast it wasn’t Spirnt. Then it would have been completely worthless. Have to wait till June and see how it all pans out. The devise looks good and is a logical marriage of technology. I am just afraid of what Apple will do to make sure you can only make calls "Their way". Also the usual iPod limitations will certainly apply. I wonder if you will have to use iTunes to update you telephone address book now too? Sprint and verizon will have to partner with other to remain competitive. I will be curious to see what offerings they have. Creative has been suspiciously NOT announcing any new Players at CES thus far. There has been some speculation that they were waiting for Apple to make their announcement before unveiling their new stuff. Time to play wait and see. I have never had any problems with my sprint phone, and have always made good progress when talking to their customer service people. The last thing Sprint needs to remain competitive is another merger. They need to fully intergrate the Nextel and the Sprint PCS technologyDivot your source for all things Hillbilly. Slappie 9 #39 January 11, 2007 Sprint is a sinking ship. They lost 300,000 customers last quarter. Quote The wireless giant warned investors that it expects flat revenues and pressured profits in the near term. The Reston, Va.-based company also reported that its cell phone business experienced a net loss of 300,000 monthly subscribers and that the company will let go of 5,000 employees. Investors shed the shares on Tuesday, sending the stock free-falling nearly 10%, or $1.91, to $17.73. Broke 0 #40 January 11, 2007 The thing that sprint needs to do to remain competitive is Lower the cost of their plans. ALso they need to add more towers. I have had more friends switch to verizon because they couldn't recieve cell signal in their homes. My job is switching to Verizon from Sprint/Nextel because of other issues. I may switch simply because everyone I talk to is switching. I have liked sprint. However it is just costing me too much to stay with themDivot your source for all things Hillbilly. freeflir29 0 #48 January 13, 2007 I have my ZVM and I love it. I was just thinking......I sure as hell don't want that to be my phone too. I often take LONG overseas flights. I can run my ZVM until it dies and not worry about it. Now if that was my phone I'd have to be worried about not running the battery down in case I need to make a call when I land. Plus........who wants to have to unplug their phone from a computer while it is syncing to take a call. Ugghhhh...............that stupid thing sounds more annoying every time I think about it.
