Users will be able to download and listen to music on the phone, which was demonstrated by Apple boss Steve Jobs at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco. Mr Jobs praised the phone's design and told the audience the "magical device" would "revolutionise the industry". The phone, which will cost from $499 (£257) to $599, will be launched in the US in June and Europe later this year. Also revealed at the annual Macworld Expo was Apple TV, a device to stream music and movies from a computer to the living room. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6246063.stm full article here and http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/avdb/news/video/73000/bb/73231_16x9_bb.asx the video here. unformed 0 #3 January 9, 2007 Nope, because every phone I've bought that cost me more than ten dollars I have proceeded to, within a month, lose at a bar, leave on top of my car, or drop in the ocean. So, now I stick to six dollar phones off of ebay. This ad space for sale.

riddler 0 #5 January 9, 2007 I payed $1500 for three Bang & Olufson house phones seven years ago, and they still work great. I got my Blackberry 8700 for free, but had to get into a two year contract for it. It normally retails for over $500. Yep, these are expensive toys. I work from home, so I spend a lot on phone and internet.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

murrays 0 #7 January 9, 2007 More than Apple fans are excited about it....Apple shares were up $7.10, 8.3% on the day! My boss has a Treo that cost about $600 CAD when we bought it 3 years ago. The iPhone would likely be a million times better for him as he is technology impaired....and he wouldn't flinch at the price for a moment. If it is easier to use for websurfing, e-mail, etc....and it looks like it is very easy to use...he would buy one in a heartbeat. He travels a lot and the difficulty of using his Treo for internet stuff prevents him from using it for that purpose. I'm not a big phone user. I carry around a cell phone for the occasional call every day or two so this wouldn't be something I'd buy. But, I'd buy a new iPod with the widescreen and touch technology of the iPhone....and you know that is coming!-- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
squirrel 0 #8 January 9, 2007 i use my cell phone alot for work, I am a contractor...but I would never ever pay that much. I dont need a computer on my cell phone...its called a brain, up in your head, and it even has memory, I am happy to say I still have one, and still used it. All i need is a good battery life, and a clear speaker for my ear. but sadly as people in our world continue to turn inward, as in shutting out the outside world, I think things like this will be more popular. I see people with headphones on while camping or doing something where they should be taking in the sounds around them...but nooooo, shut it all out! ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him? Unless they know they can bend you over for the phone. Then it's never reduced or subsidised. You pay full retail for the phone and calling plan. Just like when the RAZR was first released. Only Cingular had it. After their exclusivity contract expired they lowered the prices of the phones and everyone's got one now. AggieDave 6 #13 January 9, 2007 I'm hard on phones. Infact I would argue that most people are hard on their cellphones. The last phone I got I went in and wanted the smallest and cheapest phone that did not have a camera, did not have video, did not have any sort of whiz-bang crap. I wanted a simple phone that was tough. I got a decent phone that was cheap and its fairly tough.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Jewels 0 #17 January 10, 2007 I have Sprint. I have the joy of being punished for not owning my phone for a two full years before it fell apart and needed replacing. Doesn't matter that the phone isn't working properly, I don't get the FULL credit against the purchase of a new phone until my two years are up. (Insert foul language and really mean looks--worse than this --here.) Just a phone that works, please. I don't have to have the "i-Anything" features. Oh, okay, and maybe a service provider that even vaguely cared. But now I'm asking waaaay too much.TPM Sister #

bob.dino 1 #22 January 10, 2007 I'm not a sucker for i-anything. Hell, I don't think I've ever purchased an Apple product, though we did have a pair of Apple ][cs at home when I was a kid. I am a bit of a sucker for high-end phones though . I plan on picking up a Nokia N95 when it comes out. The iPhone won't be released in Australia until 2008 or so. I can see only two major problems with the iPhone: launching first in the USA instead of Europe/Asia, and no 3G. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see a refresh adding 2100MHz HSDPA to the phone before it goes on sale in Europe. 1.8Mbps - 3.6Mbps downloads are not to be sniffed at. Gawain 0 #24 January 10, 2007 QuoteI can see only two major problems with the iPhone: launching first in the USA instead of Europe/Asia, How's that? Apple is an American company. And the fact that it is designed right now only for EDGE, that limits it to the Americas, as GSM in Europe is a bit more evolved. The American phone will roam in Euro/Asia GSM markets. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
