RkyMtnHigh 0 #5 January 15, 2007 Neither of us get MLK's birthday off. I'm surprised but it doesn't bother me to go about business as usual. _________________________________________
waltappel 1 #6 January 15, 2007 Quoteis it a National Holiday there? Kinda' sorta. It's a day off for most government workers and people who work in businesses with heavy government participation. Except for the military, that is. Walt

sharimcm 0 #9 January 15, 2007 Well, if the weather sucks and it ices over like they SAY it will, I'll be kickin' back in front of the fire watching Montel Williams and Jerry Springer. If it's clear, like it most likely will be, I'll be working. Lindercles 0 #12 January 15, 2007 I have the day off (thank god, they're slave drivers). Unfortunately the weather is looking pretty dark, so I'll probably be on the porch all day. Of course, if I drink too much tonight I'll be whipped tomorrow anyway. Don't tell my mom that or she'll have me eating crow.

waltappel 1 #19 January 15, 2007 QuoteWhy are all the places named after MLK, Happen to be the shittiest in town? I am sure he is looking down going WTF happened I'm guessing that renaming streets can be a highly political issue. Many years ago in Austin, Texas, they decided to rename 19th street to Martin Luther King Blvd. It was a real pain for all the business along that street and it's a really long one. I don't think there were any really big businesses, though. If a city proposed renaming a street that was populated with businesses owned by people and companies with a lot of money and influence, the idea would probably get shutdown quickly. On the other hand, streets through areas populated with less influential businesses and people don't have the resources to get it shutdown.
