ACMESkydiver 0 #1 January 16, 2007 Anytime I lay down...on either side or my back...my right hand goes numb. All tingly like pins & needles as if I had been laying on it or something. Then it stays numb for about 5-10 minutes after I sit up or walk around. It's been happening for about a week...and I looked on Web MD & Google for info...and can't figure anything out. I'm tired of searching, so i figured some genius here prolly knows what this kind of thing is. And I don't want to go to a doctor, so I'm seeking expert advice from the internet. -Besides, have you seen how hard it is snowing out there right now?! And I have ceilings to paint today! I have no time nor the desire to seek the advice of a professional. So has anyone else had this weird thing happen? Royd 0 #9 January 16, 2007 I have a separated right shoulder and a partially separated left shoulder. If I do anything that over exercises them, it acts kind of like carpal tunnel syndrome, and my hands will go numb during sleep.

THANKS< I've been looking for that chart. I have C6/C7 issues since Christmas. disc pushing against the spine and nerve root. Just like the OP, my right hand is constantly numb (just the index finger and middle finger, inside of the thumb). If I look up and left, I can make the entire arm go numb immediately - and release that just as fast. For the ACME - Do a search on Cervical Epidural Steroid Injection. I had that last Thursday and am waiting to see if it helps. (This is 'A' treatment, not necessarily for you but one of several. But it will link you to neat pictures that might relate to your issues.) But when you are dealing with neurological stuff - numbness, tingling, etc - I hate to see you holding off seeing a doc. The spine is pretty important. That alien in the movie Predator really seemed to enjoy spines. ... Zing 2 #11 January 16, 2007 Its likely to be carpal tunnel syndrome. I had the same thing and it just gets worse if untreated, and can lead to permanent nerve damage and atrophied muscle in your hand. Go see a good doctor.Zing Lurks

With your right hand, I'd guess somewhere near the cervical-thoracic interface, between the 5th and 8th vertabrae. I have the same thing (right hand) due to a herniated disc...I think at C6/7?...it occurs when I sit up too straight, looking straight ahead or slightly up. It also causes a knot down by the lower inside corner of that shoulder blade. Thus far, it goes away when I stay active and comes back when I veg out for a few weeks. Exercise is a much better option than surgery for me, so I'm sticking with what I've got for now (plus, neurosurgeon said I'd be out of work 4-6 weeks and play for 6+ months if I opt for surgery) Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" I did 30 minutes in the tunnel in Denver and my hands and arms were going numb for weeks afterward. I could not figure it out. I ended up going to get a massage and she found large knots in the back of my armpit that were leading to nerve problems. She worked most of them out (excruciating) and most of my problem went away. So before going to see a doctor have that checked first. I like Beans

It indicates that you may have a disc problem. If the disc has a problem, it impinges on the nerve root entering it. The disc puts pressure on your nerve entering your spine at the C6 level, or you have something else along that nerve that is causing a blockage. Don't mess with it. Go to a doctor who can make a proper diagnosis. If there is a nerve root impingement, diagnostic studies will confirm this, and the doctor can offer treatment options. This is extremely common. I don't have it myself, but I've seen it. There are all kinds of treatments available. It's amazing what they can do these days. My wife is hotter than your wife. rehmwa 2 #22 January 16, 2007 QuoteIt also causes a knot down by the lower inside corner of that shoulder blade. This too - when it's really bad. Another bonus was the entire neck and shoulder muscles completely knotting up after a long drive. ACME - I'm with Jerry on this one - don't mess with your spine. Pretty common, lots of treatments. My shot was done in about a half hour. Posture, PT, traction, chiropracty, steroids, etc, - all are available options before surgery is even considered. It's only been a week, though. But easy to validate a diagnosis of partial disc herniation with an MRI. The downside is the delay - see the doc, then schedule an MRI, then get the MRI, then wait for the MRI results, then wait for the doc to call you, then schedule with a spinal orthopedist, then get his referral to the (therapist if PT, or the anestisiologist if CESI, or the chiropractor, or the etc etc depending on the treatment), then appointment with them, then the treatment, then the wait..... It can take a while. I'll PM you in a couple weeks (if I recall) and let you know how my treatment is working. It's too soon to tell right now. ...
