realistically, the first step in the chain was the kids Parents making the poor decision of allowing their kids be put in a situation that the kids were able to meet these guys to begin with.

Sorry, dude...parents cannot follow their kids around everywhere they go and cannot approve/veto every decision they make every minute of every day. She is right...what parents have to do is educate their children on making good decisions and that includes situational ethics.
My reality and yours are quite different.

You can't stop the people from suing but I would just roll over and die if just one judge told a plaintiff, "Sorry dude, you got yourself into this mess. Take responsibility for your actions."

I like the decisions where the plaintiff wins the suit but is wholly responsible (100%) and gets nothing. But that sucks too because the loser may have to pay court costs anyway.

Ok - I admit that what I eddited in wasn't completely realistic, but, specific to this case (Since it was from the home computers and such) they do make software that prohibits web sites and increases control of the parent over the childs activity. There is even software that runs so far in the background that it cannot be traced, but it logs every key stroke, searches for key words and phrases, and notifies you when there are issues.

So, in this case, the tools were available. The tools were not implimented. Who's fault is that?

And the education comment is responded to thus: You can bring a horse to water . . .
I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama

With the amount of child predators out there nowadays, you would think most parents would know by now that their supervision is needed, and that they should probably have talks with their children about meeting strangers over the internet.:S
