So - You think you know planes?

Recommended Posts

Who can tell me what kind of plane this is? (see photos, obviously!!)

Seen flying/TUMBLING(!) around central AFRICA. Since there isn't a single DZ in CENTRAL AFRICA, I tried to get closer to talk to the pilot about getting a ride to altitude, but the soldiers there wouldnt let me near the thing.........maybe next time.............

I love the condor-inspired wingtips!! :D

It doesn't look like either one of those AN-2's will ever be flying again. You aren't missing anything by not jumping from them.
Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off.

Hey there! Hope all is well on your end.

Although I am currently in eastern france, my brother is flying around Niger. He took the photo, i guess on takeoff.

The thread is actually a copy/modification of this one
http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2442538;search_string=AN-2%20CHina;#2442538
which if I remember correctly was the start of the whole AN-2 joke here.

Here are more photos with his descriptions:

"I'll probably be here for another week and then we move to a camp 200km into the dessert. Hopefully i'll I be home by the first week of March, but the job will probably go on past that."

Original: The Antanov 2's, one of which was pulled out of it's anchor points and dumped by the wind. The crowd was not for us ;-) but for the president that visited town that day.

1 Agades early morning from the air.
2 The most famous building an Agades, the ancient mud mosque's tower.
3. The terain 20 miles North of Agades in the first of seven blocks we must do.
4. The traditional sword i bought from an old tuareg man
5. Sunset, with the 9m survey "bird" on the right

Notice in the picture of the sword transaction, what appears to be a cell phone,
in the hand of the man to the right...

in keeping with the AN-2 theme, attached is a photo of that very type Aircraft,
which ties down at Finger Lakes Skydivers' Airport in Central New York USA

and what's surprising there ? Cell phone technology is much cheaper to set up in these countries (compared to land line).
