ladyskydiver 0 #1 January 24, 2007 If I have 50 ml of 5% (by weight) aqueous HCl (density 1.02 g/ml), how do I convert that to moles? I'm looking for the moles of HCl. For some reason, I'm having a memory block on converting an aqueous concentrated solution to moles. GRRR!!! HELP!!! *Should probably not be doing this right now 'cause I'm tired, but....*Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably. Icon134 0 #3 January 24, 2007 you need the molecular weight of HCl H = 1.008 g/mol Cl = 35.453 g/mol so the total molecular weight is 36.5 g/mol (approximately) now its just a matter of canceling stuff... its a 5% by weight solution HCl so you have 50 ml x 0.05 = 2.5 ml of HCl multiply by the density (2.5 ml of HCl) x 1.02 g/ml= 2.55 g of HCl divide by the molecular weight (2.55g HCl) / (36.5g/mol) = 0.0699 moles of HCl (and I'd like it if someone would check my math/approach...) its been almost a year since I've done this... I wonder how many skydiving related conversions there are?Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

ladyskydiver 0 #10 January 24, 2007 Oh, damn...remind me not to do conversions after 10pm at night. Doh!!!! Thanks, Icon! Got your email, Squeak. Thanks! I was just having a brain block with the percent solution conversion. I had made it to the 2.5 ml of HCl and then my brain went blank. Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly!
